'93 Prelude H23A to F22B swap with poor gas milage please help....
Two weeks ago my friends put a JDM F22B. It had an exsisting h23a in it and it is blown. But I got almost 200,000 miles out of it... Anyway the newer engine is running good but my gas mileage sucks. Its like 19 or 20 miles to the gallon and that's premium fuel if that matters. I purchased the engine from cnsmotors in Cali and they only insure the block so i just used all my exsisting intake and exhaust and ecu. Is there anything I could try to get better mileage? And is there anything else that I should be aware of when doing a swap like this? I am new but learning as I go. Thank You
from my past experience with h23, i only got 19-21 miles to the gallon. Some people get a little more soem get a little less but i think it all varies on how you drive, and the condition of the motor.
By the way, you bought that f22 from CNS MOTORS? Thats cool...i got my jdm h22 from there about a month ago. I like them, there good peoples. The thing iS i live local to El mote where there shop is so i got to hand pick my motor. WOOT WOOT.

I get about 30mpg from my H23.
Here's a good read on gas mileage--https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=553323

i was a little leary about getting a motor before seeing it but i am very pleased it runs smooth and started right up with no hitches.....I have to say i will use cns again and (you lucky dog not having to pay shipping) but still a real good price after shipping and everything.............. thank you for your reply
with getting an f22 ecu will that take care of the knock sensor mounting issue and will i be able to get the ecu from a salvage yard or is there a place someone recomends to get an acu? And thank you all for the info...I was racking my brain and asking everyone I knew about the gas milage issue. This forum is a godsend. Thank You all again..........

Ok, unless you guys are saying to get the F22B ECU (P39), you're wrong. The F22A1 ECU will really screw with things. The P14 ECU will work fine, but you'll need to install a knock sensor for everything to work right. As for milage, have you done all the normal things? (fuel filter, clean injectors, etc)

Get the CORRECT ECU first, see if that helps.

I have cleaned injectors and new filter. i dont have the knock sensor mounted yet and could that cause milage issues or is it just the ecu or both? please let me know where to find an ecu also...Thank You
I found someone who has the ECU you need. It's a little pricey, but worth it. If you have AIM, talk to minha bellanoite. Just say you heard she has a P39 for sale. She was asking $110, but offer a little less and see what happens
The p14 will cause your car to run a little rich, because the h23 has higher compression than the f22b.

I bought a p39 from her for $105. She's on cb7tuner.com as "i'm the girl". It's well worth the money.
