transmission/clutch issues
I've got a '95 civic ex with manual tranny that I picked up a few months ago. It has been difficult to get into first and grinds when going into reverse when at a stop since I changed the tranny fluid, but shifts fine otherwise. If I put it into 3rd, it will then go into first. I've adjusted the pedal so that there is a couple of inches of play before the clutch engages when releasing the pedal. I've tried honda MTF, pennziol syncromesh, and neither help. Fluid spec in my manual states 10-30 or 10-40, so I'll try that next since the fluid recommendations on this forum have not worked out for me.
The clutch is starting to shudder pretty bad in first but does not slip in any gear. Is the clutch going out? If so, can this lead to the shifting problems even though the clutch seems to be adjusted properly?
thanks

Typically the shutter is based on the cusion springs (the ones in the clutch disk) getting weak due to heat. combine that with uneven flywheel wear and you get shutter. It can cause the disk to drag on the pressure plate, even when disengaged. This can be the cause of poor shift perforance in the "stopped gears" 1st and reverse.
