EJ1 with ABS problems
Yes I did search but couldn't find what I'm looking for. Alright, everytime I turn my car on I can hear the abs box under the hood make a "eerrrrrr" noise. I checked it to see if maybe it needed fluid but its toped off.
Another problem I have is everytime I make a right turn I feel a thump in the brake pedal and I hear a ticking sound from the dash area for a couple of seconds and then goes away.
The becomes really apperent when I have to stop hard. It feel as if the abs is engaging too much and not letting the car stop fast enough. Can anyone help?

Put your key in the ignition and put it into the "ON (II)" position and DO NOT START YOUR CAR. Your ABS light should brighten for 2 seconds (automatic bulb check) and turn off. Keeping your key in this position, wait for at least 5 more seconds. If the ABS light starts blinking or comes back on... you have problems... Keep note of the blink pattern, which is similar to Morse Code (1.3 sec "bar", .3 sec "dot"). They will come up in numerical order 3.6 secs apart, and a 2 sec light signals the start of the next run-through.
If your ABS light never comes on or never turns off, then this is also a problem...
To properly diagnose any problems with your ABS System, you might need a "SCS Service Connector" or a "Honda PGM Tester"... That is, get your car checked out at a Honda Dealership. There are a multitude of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that the ABS Unit can give, and they won't necessarily be in the order in which they occurred. I certainly don't have the experience/knowledge to help you much further than this, but the people who get paid to deal with this **** should.

So when you are making a turn, you are likely losing speed (decelerating), and your inside wheel spins slower than the outside wheel. Since ABS activates when wheel speeds differ, this might be causing ABS to activate. If this is the case, then the problem might be with your Sensors and/or your Control Unit. It's not likely a problem with your Modulator, since the problem is that your ABS system is activating when it shouldn't, causing the relay to click like crazy (as opposed to improperly modulating your brake hydraulics). Does the under-the-hood clicking go away when you complete your turn??
Another thing I'm thinking of is that your brakes might be biased. When your brakes are imbalanced, then this might also contribute to improper readings of Wheel Speed vs. Vehicle Speed, particularly if one side is much more worn than the other (L vs R and/or FR vs RR). Unevenly worn tires might also be a factor... Basically, anything that can cause your wheels to spin at different speeds (particularly when slowing) will give your ABS System something to work on... Do you have a LSD or a "fused" axle?? Any other tranny/axle mods?? Any non-OEM settings for Camber/Caster/Toe? Any weird ABS/brake pedal behavior when making a HEAVY downshift (no brakes)?
Finally, tell us what you got (I don't know what an EJ1 is... Flamers, please help)! I see you have what looks to be a 96-00 Civic 2DR EX, maybe a 92-95... (based on what I saw on your myspace page... What're IVETTE and christy doing tonite???
). This won't necessarily help solve your problem, but we can at least get a better idea of the ABS System setup...Anyway, from what little there is to read, most H-T'ers don't mess with ABS. I don't have it on my vehicle, but I've been reading a lot about it lately. Seek the opinion of a GENUINE HONDA PRO to get the best answer.
But check for DTCs, and let us know! GL!

Okay, my ABS light only comes on when I turn on the car along with all the other dummy lights. I turned the ignition and left it on the "ON" postion. The battery light and the ABS lights stay on and everything else turns off. The ABS light does not flash like the CEL would do.
Yes, the under the hood clicking does go away when I complete the turn.
No, I have a peg-leg transmission. As for modifications to the suspension, the car is on lowering springs and 15" gsr wheels.
The front wheel bearings are bad and I'm going to replace them this weekend. Could this be a factor? Is there anything I should look of as for wear on the sensors or something?
BTW a EJ1 is a 92-95 civic coupe. Umm... thanks for your effort for helping me and I'll post what I find!!!!!!!!!

its normal for the abs to activate for a few seconds when turning on your car. my ej1 does this too. as long as your abs light doesnt stay on or blink then your okay
you may want to bleed out the system to expell any air also

I'll try that.
Another question I have is when I bleed the brakes is the brake fluid in the abs box gonna drain out too or do I drain that out from somewhere else? The reason why I ask this is because the the fluid at the brake booster is a lot cleaner and clearer than the fluid in the abs box.

As far as bleeding goes, the Helm manual for the 96-00 Civic doesn't mention bleeding the ABS system. It only mentions bleeding at the wheels (for all models).
It would seem logical that the 92-95 Civic bleeding process would be the same, but maybe someone else can confirm/negate this... When was the last time your fluid was bled?
...
Are you sure it's the ABS box that's making the sound, and not the fuel pump primer? I can hear my fuel pump buzzing when I turn my key (before starting the car), and it can be especially noticeable when things are quiet around me... Just making sure...
Does your steering wheel vibrate when you make right turns or hard stops? I'm starting to think that a bad Front Bearing/Hub (which could cause the clicking you hear when you turn) might be causing a vibration in your axle, which could throw off your ABS Unit's calculation of wheel speed, enough for it to activate.
My philosophy is to first fix things you KNOW are wrong, and go from there. I'm not sure if replacing your bearings will solve all of the problems you might be experiencing, but at least you know you won't be wasting your money. Try to get the mechanics to check out your system when you get this work done, and let us know how things go.

When I think about, I've never changed out the brake fluid on my car. Im gonna try to bleed them next weekend. This weekend I had to change out the motor mounts on a friends car and do a valve adjustment on mine.
Yes I do know that it is my abs box making niose. Also yesterday, my abs light stood on but is wasn't able to check it. So now I know there is something going on with my abs box.
Thanks a lot JasonGhostz, I'll keep ya posted.

If ya haven't noticed, its raining in LA and I dont have a garage so I haven't had time to work on my car. I'll try to get something done this weekend and I'll keep this updated.
