just installed a cai
when i was reading over the paper work at the bottom of the installation instructions it said to reflash the ecu to "learn" of the intake, disconnect the - lead on the battery. should i do this i would rather ask u guys than some stupid mass produced directions.

It's not going to hurt anything. You have to disconnect the battery when you put a new battery in, or change a starter or alternator, right? It is going to reset the PCM, not a big deal, you'll be fine. If there's any codes or if the CEL is on, the codes will be erased and the light will be off until the computer finds the problem(s) again.
What damage can it do? The worst it can do is erase the preset stations in your radio and reset any clocks in the car, that's about it...minor inconvenience.
Now, what will it do for you? Probably nothing. It's highly unlikely that you'll gain any extra power at all by resetting the computer...not worth the hassle of resetting the clock(s) and radio stations IMO.

what do you think happens when you change your battery? you have to disconnect it. what about bringing it in for testing. disconnected. what about when you buy a swap, the ecu doesnt come with a battery pack.
if you have an obd2 disc. battery will not reset ecu. you have keep alive memory. the reason why you even do it is to relearn the iac. just let it idle for a while

Ok well...a couple things.
-No it will not hurt anything if you do this...like it's been posted earlier, worst it will do is reset your radio stations.
-resetting your ecu allows it to relearn fuel curves; this is why a cold air intake usually produces more hp. The IAT sensor tells the computer that the air is colder/more dense with oxygen, and in response, the computer can add more fuel.
P.S. *If you are working on/replacing your battery, you can avoid losing your radio presets and other settings by leaving the car running while you change the battery.*
