broken crank pully AGAIN!!!!!!!
~1992 Honda Prelude Si ~ H23A1 ~ 5 Speed ~
ok so i have broke my crank pully/keyway twice in my car. i have owned it for about 8 months and had it fixed once and tonight (about 1 month after i fixed it) it broke again and it threw the belts and my pully spins. how is it possible that i broke it twice? what would cause this to happen?.
the only thing that happened tonight that doesnt usualy happen is i was on the freeway doing about 80MPH and i went to drop it to 4th gear and missed and hit 2nd my tach jumped to 8,000 RPMs i pushed the clutch back in very fast so it was only at 8 for about 1/2 a second then about 10 minutes later it broke. i am starting to hate my prelude and i do not want to feel this way because i love this car. it is my dream. could someone please help...
thanks

exactly, those keyways/pullies dont just break under normal conditions.....
youre either doing something wrong putting it in, or your belts may be way too tight....im sure the vibration of 8k on an h23 did some damage too....im not sure if you are familiar with the term logic, but logic would insist that 8000rpm was probably the deciding factor in it breaking.....
treat it good and it will treat you good

The tach may say it was 'only' 8k (already sky-high for an H23), but it was likely much more than that if you spent any amount of time there (even the tenths of a second it takes you to react).
