Default Power Steering Gooooooooooooooooooooooooone! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

the screaming wasn't real...but it could have been if I lost it on the highway. Anyhow. Anyone had a sudden and I mean sudden loss of power steering? Luckily it was on my road only a few miles from home. It immedietly felt as if I had two front flat tires and go figure it happened on a sharp corner, luckily only going about 35 mph.

The power steering fluid level is fine so it has to be the pump right? I've got a few days to see if I can fix the problem before I drop it off at the mechanics monday. Any ideas? Could it just be something simple? ( crossing my fingers ) ...or is it most likely going to be something that costs some $$$.

Thanks in advance for answering to this noob post.

it's your pump, more than likely. have you ever flushed the system since you've had the car? if not, now you know that it's not a bad bit of PM to do...

Just got her fully tuned up to the cost of $500 two months ago Know how much a new pump goes for off hand...and what I'll be looking at $ wise?

I'm about 90% sure that was on the list of fluids they flushed.

a typical tune-up doesn't cover power steering, unless you specifically ask/pay for it.

a pump will probably cost about 80 bucks for a new one from autozone (got that from their website). also, you may have to flush the whole system. My friends prelude lost his PS pump and when we changed it the whole system was full of metal shavings from the old pump which in turn will destry your new pump unless you get that crap cleaned out of there. Good luck!
