91 Accord EX Shift Solenoids Problem
Hi Everybody...I'm new here and have owned my Accord for 5 years with no real problems...until now. I bought the car with a bad ATCU (according to the dealer). Bought a new one for $650! It was fine for a few years but the flashing "S" light and 2nd gear/ fourth gear only problem has returned. I sent the computer out to ECMs To Go in Texas (great guys!) and they checked it out with no charge. They say it's fine and maybe the problem is with the shift solenoids. Anybody ever replaced these? Easy to get to and there are 2 of them. One for "lock up" (upper) and the other is simply called the AT solenoid (lower). $150 and $103 respectively.
Any ideas? Anybody ever changed these? What are the symptoms when they go bad?
Thanks for your help,
Dan

before you replace them. diagnose. diagnose, diagnose,,. make sure the wiring going to them is ok,,,,,,,,,if ok,,, remove them and clean the metal filtering screen , sometimes they get plugged up causing problems,, once solenoids are out, blow compressed air in the passages now exposed, put all back together, replace tranny fuid use atf-z1 from Honda.. and try it.........by the way what is the code the S lite is flashing ???..
2 solenoids lock up and shift solenoids located near the lower radiator hose.. frt upper of tranny if looking at it from frt of car ///// try and post results and get the code and post it
