Anyone know of an OEM reverse rotation 3 stage dry sump pump?
Don't want to use an aftermarket since this is for road racing and the car will see a lot of miles.

Porsche, Ferrari, Chevrolet, any.
From what you and Brad mentioned about the aftermarket pumps, they are sensitive to foreign objects in the oil.

I'm not sure what they use. I'm just trying to find an alternative to replacing an expensive pump very often. Brad said he's seen pumps last only 500 miles.
Guess they cannot use them for the Daytona 500, the Charlotte 600, Indy 500.
, or the Baha 1000. What do they do for the Daytona 24 hour, Sebring 12 hour, or the 24 hours of Le Mans. Next years Formula Atlantic car's must run 2000 Mi. before a rebuild and the dry sump pump must last 6000 mi. this is between 6500-8500 RPM.

All i said in the past was for a dailly driver its not a good Idea for a race pump .
And I was talking about a full dry sump system not an external oil pump ..
I have Rebuilt .. Moroso G rotor style to Weaver Bros .. Gear style .
to Barnes . Johnson . well alot
We had plenty of Bush customers using the same pump all year long ...
ever seen what happens to a motor when the aftermaket oil pump fails ..
I have plenty of times ....

Can you reccomend any dry sump systems that would be as reliable as an OEM pump in a "street" car?

The pumps are kinda cheesy, but there is a company that still makes steel pumps I think. Look into Aviad. I agree with Brad, an aftermarket pump is typically made for relatively a short lifetime. If you kept the oil clean, and have some common sense, a routine maintnance of changing the oil a couple of times and then inspecting the pump for burrs/ wear, you sould be fine. If the pump needed repairs, it would most likely be the bronze(driven) gear, and only for a single stage at a time.

Don't they make these things ..Oh what are they called ? Oh yeah OIL FILTERS.If you ran a System 1 or an Oberg or some thing like that it will be OK.I have seen Sprintcars run all year on the same pump.
RMF: with an oil filter, how long do you think a dry sump pump would last on a daily driver, mileage wise (you know, with the usual stop & go traffic, weekend blast for fun, and stuff) ?

Well it depends on his air cleaner. And how many times he blows it up.What hurts any oil pump is **** going through it.So if nothing out of the ordinary goes through it.And he keeps A good air cleaner on it .It could last at least as long as his hotrod motor.
But unless he got a small one or a two stage pump he would just be using up power to turn it.Also people have a habit of running to much oil pressure. At max RPM's it shouldn't have more than 60 to 65 lbs and 5 or 10 at idle. That's warmed up.
Oh yeah as far as milage. How many miles does your average 911,936 or 996 get on one?

I've become a fan of the dry sump after working on the Dad's car with it's 16quart capacity on a 2.6L engine... Never had any problems with the pump, and the engine sits real low in the chassis.
However, if the aftermarket ones available aren't as reliable as the OEM pump in the long term, I wouldn't bother messing with it.

5 years later are there better offerings of dry sump options now? Is there a reliable option that can potentially be used in daily drivers yet?
@alphajesse - which dry sump setup is in your dad's motor?
