why does everyone use gsr or type r water pump on there lsv?.. , just to use the gsr, type r timing belt? why not stick with the stock ls waterpump and use your ls timing belt?

The reason people use it is because the vtec pulley on the water pump is bigger wich means that is spins slower and will still be effective at 8k. I've used the stock ls one on my ls/vtec and have had no problem for the last year.

From Wikipedia

"Cavitation is, in many cases, an undesirable occurrence. In devices such as propellers and pumps, cavitation causes a great deal of noise, damage to components, and a loss of efficiency.

When the "bubbles" of cavitation collapse, they create large amounts of noise. The noise created by cavitation is a particular problem in submarines, as the noise destroys its stealth.

The collapse of cavities involves very high energies, and can cause major damage. Cavitation can damage almost any substance. The pitting caused by the collapse of cavities produces great wear on components and can dramatically shorten a propeller or pump's lifetime.

Additionally, the creation of and subsequent collapse of cavitation bubbles creates friction and turbulence in the liquid. This contributes to a loss of efficiency in devices that are experiencing cavitation."

Hope this helps.

Yes. Don't worry about the rest of that stuff about submarines and all that... But basically flow from the pump drops off dramatically when it cavitates. And no, you can't see it.

i think the b16 is different but all obd 2 b18 water pumps are the same typer-gsr-ls so you dont have to buy a type r or gsr you can just buy a obd 2 ls pump.
peace

Now i could be wrong here... but isnt it the other way around? I've been told that the LS water pumps have the 22 teeth... and the GSR type R ones have 19... which is why it is better to use a LS water pump... gains about 3 horses or so... let me know if im way off

gsr/itr water pumps have 22 teeth and ls water pumps have 19
you must match the timing belft with the water pump. ls belt for ls water pump gsr/itr timing belt for the gsr/itr 22 teeth water pump

Listen to Matt and riceball777, your motor might last a little longer.
