Default Subframe tear-out question

Ok, here's the deal. I'm looking to do a fairly mild street suspension setup. To that end, here is the setup I am planning on:

H&R OE Sport springs (280 lb/in f, 180 lb/in r) ~.75" drop f/r
KYB GR-2 shocks
EX front sway bar
Right now I have a GS-R rear sway, but I just bought a 19mm ST rear sway.

With these spring rates and a 19mm bar, will tear-out be a real concern? Car will never be tracked and will see hard street duty at best.

Should I just drop another $200 on the ASR brace? Or will a simple rear tie fix things?

Personally I have no Idea!

But IMO... better be safe than sorry...

From what i've read, the rear subframe isn't the strongest peice of the car... and an ASR brace would really help... it also acts as a tie-rod... doesn't it?

Plus its bling!!! LOL
also its not 200! its only 180... plus shipping

passwordjdm has em for 179.9x or sumthing like that...

hope that was helpful.

youll run a pretty decent chance of it tearing out. youre spring rates are so low that your swaybar is going to be doing most of the work during cornering. if you already have the springs, invest in the subframe brace.

i've tore mine.

even w/ "brackets"... at that point (back then) there was no ASR brace...

I'm rocking the CTR frame right now... but in ur case, i say drop the $ for the brace. you WOULD NOT be sorry...

trust me.

however, in the case that ur frame still tears w/ the brace (which is a very minimal slim-*** chance, like we're talking about 0.01%) then ur SOL... weld the bitch until u r fed up welding it and rock the CTR frame (CTR frame is not expensive $200CAD shipped no problem, u do the conversion to USD) but labour i can tell u is ($1000CAD)...

cheers.

I am not 100% sure if there is a chance of tear out, or ever a small chance, but for street use you don't need to fork out $200 for a kit. Check users BSQ and Beaks kits, they work well. I use the BSQ with a 23mm sway bay, but much stiffer springs and shocks, on a track, and have not had a tear out problem. Before that I ran a 22mm rear sway bar with ITR shocks and springs (pretty soft and similar to H&R OE rates) with the BSQ kit and had no problems either.

Dude, you got pics of your CTR frame? What's the conversion process like? Did it require alot of cutting and welding?

I had pics on my computer but the 'puter' fried last year lost everything... old pics car show pics... the models EVERYTHING.

anyhow, i had the body shop weld it on and luckily the alignment result came out "spot on" so everything was fine. PHEW!
