need some help/advice broken bolts
I have broken about ½ the length of stud that holds the exhaust manifold (header) on my block. Any suggestions? I’m not sure if I should take a vise grip to it or just have a machine shop remove it for me. Cannot fit any sort of drill in there so the EZ-out extractor set is useless. I want to remove all of them an jus use bolts instead while I’m at it. thanks in advance
take a candle aand lighter and place the hot wax where the stud broke (getes wax into the stud area) then try drilling it out---old trick i picked up from the old hot rodders

the hot wax is slim enough to slide into some of the threads in the bolt also it helps the drill bit grab
u let the wax cool...this works especially well when you have a recessed stud in the block

Take some vice grips and just remove it. They thread into the head. Also, about using bolts...those stud holes strip very easily when using bolts. You are much better off using studs. They are under a $1 at Honda. Good luck

don't really have enough to get a good grip. the thing is about less than 1/2 an inch of space for me to grab.
off topic: i remember you... how is that b16a2 block doing?

Here is a way to remove it.
Hold a nut where the bolt is broken off and use a mig welder to fill the nut up welding it to the bolt. You won't hurt the head as it is aluminum and a mig won't weld to it. Then you simply turn the nut after it cools and shazzam the broken bolt comes out.
I have done this a few times on Hondas.
Good Luck.
