Lost Car Alarm Remote :(
i bought my car 2 summers ago from an acura dealer (1997 integra gs)
it came with a car alarm/remote start and only one remote control
apparently the little o ring that held my remote on my key chain broke and now i am unable to use my alarm.
my question is this:
was this a factory alarm? what are my options here? can i just buy a new remote and have it programmed or am i going to have to buy a whole new alarm system? thanks in advance.

can i just buy any remote and get it programmed? i dont care about the remote start, i never used that any way. i just want to be able to use the alarm
yes you could get another remote and get it programmed. Thats what I did when some shady bodyshop sprayed water on my viper remote. Just bring it to a car alarm place, let them take a look at the brain and most likely they may know what remote to use.

do i reprogram the remote myself? or would i buy it off of ebay than take it to a shop? because i am sure the stereo shop will charge an arm and a leg if i bring in a product for them to install and i did not buy it there

if you get it off ebay most likely your going to have to find a way to program it. If you know how, go for it. When the alarm place programed my viper remote, it didn't seem too much work. All they did was turn my key to the on position, held the valet button and press another button on the remote. It could be different in your case.

well if it had a remote start then its not an OEM alarm. and re-programming an alarm is a fairly quick process, something that you may be able to do yourself depending on the alarm and if the remote includes instructions. i cant imagine a shop charging too much for something that simple.
the brain can be located in a number of different places depending on who installed it, typically found under the drivers seat or up in the dash somewhere.

thanks tre_
i am not sure what brand of alarm it is (prolly something shitty) i guess i will first check to see how much the local shop would charge to reprogram a new remote and if it is not an absurd amount (which i am sure it will be) i will get it done there. if not, to ebay it is
