Well I was over at a friends house last night and low and behold he's been getting the British versions of Top Gear (those who aren't familiar it's a show about mostly high speed cars driven all over Europe with lots of british humor) Well we watched one episode (theirs over there are an hour long) and it's got some decent material but then at the end of it, of course they talk about the next episode. WOW. There it is, the Bugatti Veyron. It's a Bugatti with a W-16 engine with Quad-turbos making a rediculous 1001 HP and a 7 speed gear box. The top speed on this car was listed at 252 and even at that, it was limited. There was a comment mentioned that I will never forget. If you lined up this Bugatti and a McLaren F1 (previous fastest car in the world) and let the McLaren leave the line first and hold the Bugatti until the McLaren reached 120, the Bugatti would pass the McLaren before it ever reached 200 MPH. OMG that's wicked fast. 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. This is one sick *** car. I can't seem to find the actual Top Gear episode in anything other than Bit Torrent format but here is a clip of what I did find. Don't mind the French language. I've found a few more as well but this was the best one of the car minus the language barrier.

Everytime I tried to DL it from there, it said the page could not be displayed.

 

The new fastest (accelerating) car is the Tiger Racing open wheel cars, they are production but I dont know if you'd really call it a car. I saw them on Top Gear as well, they use two Kawasaki engines and dont weigh ****. They did a 0-60 test and got well under 2.5.

The Saleen S7 goes 0-60 in 2.5

 

Stat I loved, if it were flat out @ 252Mph, the 100Ltr tank would last 12 minutes and you'd be 50 miles down the road when it ran out of juice.

And FWIW 0-62 is 2.5

I read somewhere that the aerodynamics on the S7 are so brutal that at certain speeds it could drive upside down through a tunnel, if there was a tunnel that damn big!

 

there's several cars that have more downforce than what they weigh, meaning, in theory they could drive upside down. the Saleen S7 is one of the only production cars that can do it tho.

fastest 0-60 time i know of for a production road car is the Lingenfelter Stg IV Corvette. 1.9 seconds.

 

The stat that really makes me go :eek: is this:

Let a McLaren F1 take off and reach 120mph before taking off in the Veyron, and the Veyron will still beat the F1 to 200mph.

Yes but that's nothing like the British humor of Top Gear. I really like that show. It's on season pass for my DVR.

i recall reading somewhere that when they first tested the Veyron they couldnt hit the 252 mark since it became a bit unstable and there was doubt if the tires can actually handle all that speed. course this was a long while ago... i'm sure they mustve had improvements by now

A little interesting fact, my college tuition is paying off and I used simple math to figure out that the car accelerates from 0-60mph faster than it would if it were to simply fall of a cliff. lol gotta love that.
