well d's will always lag but you should feel a certain pull especially in 1st....check your timing...my roomates car lagged the same way. Asked one of my friends to look at it and all it was the timing. Adjust to some point i forgot....get some more info though..

I may have to do that myself also haha, I can rev my engine up to like 4k then just about drop, and it will seem to almost die. then after 3.5k it will take off

Unfortunately, that seems to be the deal with the d16 engine. In an attempt to get some more horsepower and for giggles, I modified the power steering and it seems to have fixed the pre-3k lack of power. I can describe the process if you would like.
