I would drain the oil that was in the car to and look for any shavings or flakes of aluminum and copper(you can cut the filter open too). Generally if the oil is low enough for the light to come on its a bad situation, but if you catch it quick enough you might be alright

to do a complete oil change do you think if I wait to the weekend I'll be alright? or is that too long to wait. I work until 5 and don't have time after work for an oil change.

You may have a problem with the oil pickup or oil pump. I would get it checked out using an oil pressure gauge just to see how low the pressure is.

Another thing to check is to see if the oil pressure sensor is plugged in and the wire is in good shape. It might just be a loose connection with the plug.

Yea as a general rule, when the oil light comes on it means the oil pick up isn't submerged in oil which means your engine is basically running dry. I'd drain it like the other guy there said and I'd try to do it as soon as you can. If you get a magnetic oil plug it'll pick up any shavings you might have in your oil. If you've done any damage and you're car is smoking or anything like that and you don't have the money to replace the engine, lucas oil is really good ****. Like either a half quart to 3.5 of your regular oil or 1 to 3, something like that. Good luck man.

ok heres another post. Sorry to whom ever I upset, but I was wondering what if I did find metal shavings in the oil? what can I do from there? I was thinking of going LS Vtec would that help any problems that might've happened internally because of driving the oil lamp on?

From there, I would start by changing the oil. I'd do it myself and drop the pan and clean it out, and then I'd make sure the screen on the oil uptake is clean. I'd run it for a couple hundred miles and change the oil again and see if any more shavings come out. And like I said before, MAGNETIC PLUG is your friend.
Going Vtec? No, that's really not helping anything, it'll just replace the cams so if they're worn yea it helps that but the damage you need to worry about will likely be on the rod bearings and crank and main bearings. If you go Vtec just be smart and rebuild the whole engine and get it all cooked and cleaned so you can be sure.

looks like the oils come out of the valve cover the left side by the distributor any ideas on how much this would cost to fix?

not sure but right under the distributor is where its coming from I'm going to use some degreaser and clean it up to see where it is coming from any idea on how much it would be to fix the cam seal or valve cover gasket?

sometimes our cars just eat oil. like last oil change I put in 4.2 quarts and only 3 came out. i changed my oil last month and this month it was low so I had to add like .7 quart. dont worry to much. just make shure your oil level is between the two dots. oil light usually means low oil pressure but its usually becuase your oil is low. does the light still come on? btw everyone knows that a LS is non vtec you dont have to state it. hahahaha

It's a simple dirt cheap fix. It's probably the distributor O ring. All you gotta do is take off the Dist, and the O ring is on the base of the shaft where it hooks to the cam. Only problem I had was finding someplace that knew what I was talking about. Think I had to go to the dealer because the people at the autoparts store were clueless. Oh and don't forget to either mark your distributor position (on the top of the top mounting point) or be prepared to set your timing again. If it's still leaking after that, look into some new cam seals. A couple of aftermarket companies make billet ones that are supposed to never shrink or leak. BTW Could also be the valve cover gasket but that's also cheap and simple to fix.
