Default tuning a gsr

i searched but i didn't find the answer i was looking for.

first off, i have a 2000 gsr nad i don't really want to swtich to obd1 unless i have to. which im sure to make the most power out of this set up i will need to.

over the winter i will be installing skunk2 stage 2 cams, valve springs, retainers and toda cam gears along with my current I/E and which header i chose most probably SMSP.

i currently have a vafc II in my car. will i be needing something like a greddy e-manage along with the vafc to tune my car correctly? and would i be better off switching to obd1?

U have an OBD2 car so unless u go standalone or OBD1 then the ecu will fight all corrections to the mapping. OBD honda ECU's are fuzzy logic wheer it learns the maps and if they are altered the ecu will notice and correct the alterations. preOBD hondas can use emanage and AFC's without a problem since the ecu doesnt "know" anybetter but the newer ecus are a smart form of AI

Sorry that this doesnt have to do with your question..but i was wondering if you are still runing the stock compression. If you are, then i would recommend getting rid of those cams. I would recommend getting the sk2 stage 1's because they make more power from the compression ratio you have. Stage 2's are overcamming your motor and if you havent upgraded pistons to increase compression, then i would sell those and get the stage 1 cams

You can tune your car with the afc, but you can't tune it well.

For obdII your only really GOOD tuning solution is AEM EMS and even then you can't pass emissions because you'll lose your diagnostic port.

Really, going obdI will be your cheapest option in order to get the most power and best running motor. The problem with obdII ecus is there is not spot on the ecu to chip it, obdI have an open spot (AFAIK).

Since you're going to be running a mild setup, an obdI chipped ecu will work pretty well and pretty cheap (can always tune better with uberdata, crome, or neptune).

Hope that helps
