Default engine overheated and no heat

As the title says, I've got no heat which isn't good for temps in the single digits here in the Poconos and NJ! Here are my symptoms:

1. No heat, just blows cold air Yes, I checked the valve in the engine bay by the firewall and the valve under the passenger side dash. both work when I move the temp control **** from cold to hot. I had heat but just recently it was starting to not be as hot. And now I've got none whatsoever!

2. My engine overheated I checked both rad hoses and the upper is hot while the lower is cold. I pulled off the highway onto the shoulder, shut the car off for a bit, cooled the engine down, topped up the A/F and then when I went to start her up she didn't. Called AAA to come pick me up but then 5 minutes later she started up again! Cancelled the AAA service call and made it into work.

3. My temp guage in the dash has always been showing hot. Actually the needle is pointing beyond hot. I've asked about this before and haven't replaced my Temp. sending unit or the other 2 on the back of the engine I was supposed to check. Yes, I'm lazy.

4. A new Honda OEM water pump replaced the old leaking one I don't see any leaks coming from the "new" pump so I'm assuming this isn't the problem. I was getting a bit of squealing which I can blame on my belt either being too loose or too tight right?

5. My function control buttons don't control anything anymore My temporary solution was to disconnect and remove the function control motor and manually change the vents by hand. Could this have caused the loss of heat?

I've searched and searched and the only replies I've seen where to check the valves in the engine bay and under the dash, swap out the thermostat. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Thanks for all your help H-T and sorry about the long-*** post!

Now the little bugger won't turn over. Same thing happened when she overheated. She didn't start right away but after about 10 minutes she started right up. Once I get her started (or should I say if...) I'm passing by my dad's place to hopefully swap out the thermostat in sub freezing winter weather! Yay for me!

BTW I rechecked all the valves again and they seem fine to me. Is there only the one vavle under the dash on the passenger side? I only saw one. Thanks!

another vote on the thermostat, also that your t-belt will make noise if its too tight, it has a preset tensioner though so i dunno how ya did that.

Buy a $2 radiator flushing kit at autozone and get a new thermostat. You should change your t-stat every time your engine overheats.

Where in my original post did I say I drove over and over again? It happened once today, that's it. And maybe, maybe twice since I bought the car last January. Although I'll be pretty pissed if I warped the head, it's a D15B2 engine. I was hoping to swap out for something else. Looks like I may have to do it sooner than later. Or maybe just swap out for another head eh?

Come on now. Do you expect every person here on H-T to be as knowledgeable as you? I'm fairly new to the Honda scene having previously (and still am) been fixed gear bike kinda guy. Heck, I'm still learning about engines and cars in general. I used to just let my dad fix my cars when things went clunk. I'm learning as I go. Cut me some slack. And yes, I have an online version of Helms and I go through it quite often. Am I not allowed to ask for opinions on an online forum created for Honda enthusiasts both new and old?

Flush out and replace coolant.
Mixture of antifreeze/h2o (60/40) would help in the freezing temperature.

Nah, I guess I didn't explain myself well. No harm, no foul.

BTW, seeing as you're in NJ, do you know of a good place to source engines and/or parts? I'm in the Poconos and the 2 Harry's U-Pull-it's nearby are a good source for basic parts but just in case I need to get more specific...

Thanks!

Check the top radiato hose if its hot the thermostat is ok Then personally I would go to the heater core if you have no heat it might be leakin and the way the heater core is sealed its possible not to even know its leaking.
