00 Accord coupe EX...Vibrates a lot...
Hi I just got My 2000 Accord EX coupe V4. When it's not moving and the engine is on...it seems to vibrate a lot. This happens especially if i turn the AC on. Right when i turn it on it seems like it's dying....Also I thought accords suppose to have a semi smooth ride. There is a LOT of rode noise when i'm driving. I was wondering if anyone can give me some possible areas that could be related to this problem. Anything at all would be helpful. List of parts to change/check etc. Everything on this vehicle is stock and it was driven by a conservative girl. The vehicle does have 105k miles on it tho...thanks any help would be useful
The vibration could be several things:
1. Clean the throttle body,
2. Clean the idle speed controler - or what ever Honda calls it. If it's dirty and sticking
it can cause various problems.
3. Check and clean the battery cables - both ends, and all grounds you can find.
I'm assuming it's a automatic. Does it have a tach? If so what is the idle rpm?
4. You may want to pump up your idle speed just a bit.
5. Bad/broken motor mounts - or soft wishbones.
The road noise could be from the tires.
1. What kind of shape are they in - and I don't mean round
Are they new?
2. When was the last time you had the car aligned?
3. Are the windows up and seated? A slight crack in a window at highway speed
can make quite a bit of noise.
4. How are the door seals? Try putting a dollar bill (or piece of paper) between the
door and body. Then close the door. Can you move the dollar bill around? If
yes, then either the seals are shot, or the doors aren't closing enough. You will
have to try this on all the doors, and at many points on the doors if the dollar
doesn't move.
5. I guess this should have been 1st - what kind of road noise? Is it a low bassy
growl? If so, it's a wheel bearing going.

There will always bee some vibration from the four cylinders... but it sounds like you have an excessive amount. Couple this with the idle speed almost dying at a stop, and it seems like you have a valve adjustment issue. It sounds odd, but simply adjusting the valves to spec can resolve some of these issues. Too little valve clearence can cause low vacuum and the running conditions you mentioned.
