painted intake
Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has done this. I used duplicolor metal cast blue and silver base coat for this. took me about 2 hours to let dry and what not including prep. let me know what you think.

Very clean. There's two things that stick out to me though - the thing for the cruise control, and the blue top to the wiper fluid. I say paint the top black, and who needs cruise control anyways?!
Edit: Three things... radiator cap

what do I think? I think it looks like you rattle-canned your intake piping and your spark plug cover...
make it all match, or don't do it at all...and why blue? is your car blue?

i love my little rainbow under the hood, but i never thought to paint that fluid top.
i don't even think my cruise control works any more so maybe i will ditch it
radiator cap...
the car used to be red, i had the option to have the engine bay painted but i really like the red. every time i open the hood to do work it's like open heart surgery
thanks
btw: iceman plastic intake with hi-temp primer, hi-temp semi gloss black (3 coats) , hi-temp clear (2 coats). i love the rattle can.

I sprayed my intake with the VHT Black Wrinkle paint and it looks OK. I did a crappy job painting it, but when I get around to re-doing it, it will look great. It matches the valve cover pretty well.
so how do u go about doing your valve color, the same as the other forum say? aircraft stripper/ do u prime and then u the rattle-can, if not how did u do it, the guy with the 4th gen lude. and do u use sand paper to get the paint to stick at all. i want to do it too, but do it right the first time

get is completely stripped and have it powdercoated... spraying it will only make it look liek crap in the end...

Spark plug cover looks like ***.
Intake looks good - unique in its own way.
How about another attempt at the spark plug cover. Looks like you missed the edges, and you obviously don't know how to paint. You have heavy spots in the middle - its all crazy. Kinda looks like a blue permanent marker. But I say unmount it, primer it, and do it again. This time, use many LIGHT coats, instead of one or two HEAVY coats. And make sure you paint evenly.
One stroke
Let it dry
Another stroke
let it dry
yet another one,
then let it dry
do the same for the clear coats.
Good luck.

I've seen some good results with hi temp paint rattle-can. Mine looks good. The only problem is I didn't use wrinkle paint, so every casting flaw shows. At least I used flat black.
I sanded alot to get everything alittle smoother, it helped, but the amount of sanding I would need to do to get it smooth I might as well polish it.
On the intake of the origional poster. I think all of it would look better if you couldn't see runs in it. If you like the blue, I think you would be well served to sand the runs and spray a couple of THIN coats.

i might put a few red accents here and there but just completely oem interior.

right outta my mouth.
i honestly don't think powdercoating is worth what it costs, unless you get a good deal. YES it does look good, but i don't think it can match the look of crinkle paint done correctly.
-STRIP it, and i mean..to the point where you can't see remnants of the old paint, just bare metal (aircraft stripper is nasty stuff, so unless you have a good ventilated area, wear a mask and some gloves)
-sand it to scuff the surface (not sure what grit, but not too coarse)
-CLEAN it to make sure there's no dust or any miscellaneous particles from the stripping still chillin on there.
-prime it very evenly. thin coats
-paint it very evenly. (practice laying one thin layer after another on a piece of plywood or something)
-seal the paint with light clearcoat. it doesnt have to be glossy clearcoat if you don't want luster on the surface
i think you'll be all set.

......and then don't ever spill coolant on it or try to clean anything with carb cleaner.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that that paint is not chemical resistant whatsoever.
