Engine cleanout
i have a 1990 Honda accord EX 4 door and i want to get a tuneup and an engine clean out. A engine clean out is when they hook this machine up to your engine with hoses and stuff and it filters some kind of cleaner or something through your engine its supposed to get rid of all the dirt and grime thats built up inside the engine, on the injectors and the pistons and stuff. but i was wondering how this would affect performance, i know it would yield better gas millage, but would you say it would bring the car closer to factory performance? i guess the grime has been building up for about 10-15 years now so i should feel some performance difference. I'm defiantly getting a tuneup but the clean out cost $129 is it worth it?
I think this type of clean out can cause more problems than it eliminates. I would use a product that does this slowly while you drive the car. It is call auto-rx and has worked for me on two cars with high milage. http://www.auto-rx.com is the web site. You would need two bottles to do it properly and the cost is about 50 dollars plus several quick oil changes.
There has been a product on the market for a number of years named RISLONE which is used specifically for sludge built-up in the oil system. It's been marketed in a yellow quart can.
The drill for it's use?
At the time of a next oil change (with the engine hot), it's added to the crankcase and allowed to circulate with the engine oil.
Some technicians advocate having the engine idle for about an hour
-others-
Advocate light driving for that hour
at which point it's drained and a conventional oil change (with NEW filter) is performed.
There is no one Magic Machine which will perform all you're discribing.
there are:
Coolant System Flush Machines
Injector Cleaner Products
Sludge Cleaner Products (discussed)
De-Carboning Agents (Products)
but no Magic Machine.

At my work we have 2 Cleaners, a fuel injection cleaning where we hook up a bottle to your PCV valve or brake booster vacume line and it cleans the valves and such
We have an engine flush which u drain out the oil, and add this container of stuff, its about 4 quarts, and u run it for 5 minutes, drain it, put a new filter and add oil

or, the best of all of this is seafoam engine treatment...if you do a search on this website, you will find posts that attest to actually "feeling" a performance difference from before and after use...it's basically a highly concentrated cleaner in which you add 1/3 to the gas tank, 1/3 to the crank case, and 1/3 to the engine directly through the brake booster vaccuum connector...the additived to the gas will clean out your fuel system and combustion chamber, the additive to your crank case will clean out every oil port and all the sludge in your crank case tha thas built up over the years, and the additive to the brake booster will directly clean out the intake ports (if any buildup exists), the combustion chamber, and the exhaust ports of carbon-deposits and build-up...you will notice much smoother acceleration and performance after the use of it, and it can be purchased for like $5...i highly suggest usinig it about 500 miles before your next oil change...
