Ok I just replaced the timing belt on my 99 Ls and now its acting weird (so I know its got to be a timing issue). I also swapped heads with a spare one just to make sure I have good parts on my car. Now my car runs sort of sluggish and it won't keep an idle. It idles at about 1,000 rpms for 12 sec. and shuts off. What's going on here.

 

Why did you replace the cylinder head when you changed the timing belt? Did you use the white timing mark to find TDC?

 

yeah we did it by the book. also to rule out voltage, we did a full tuneup.

pull the valve cover back off, make sure it didn't skip a few teeth. Also, just making sure (off topic). You have a new headgasket, head bolts/studs and all that to go with your new head right? Also, was the head resurfaced or brand brand new? All surfaces were squeeky clean when you mated the head and block together?

 

yes everything was new (head was cleaned).
