Default HELP: are automatic axles and 5spd axles different? intermediate shaft?

im doing the transmission swap to my ls here soon. its an abs car, dont kno if that matters. im most likely going to use a jdm gsr trans with lsd. are the autos the right length? will i have to swap the intermediate shaft too?

When I did a tranny swap on my D series, I reused my existing axels. I'm assuming it would be the same on your B series.

im hoping so, but i was hoping to get an answer from someone that did do this. altho ive heard you can reuse auto axles, then ive heard you cant. ive also heard on some years you have to use the hasport conversion mount for the tranny cuz the frame rail bracket is positioned differently on autos.

thanx for the info,
justin

i did a auto-manual swap on my 96 ls and i reused the auto axles. they fit fine with no problems. but i had to buy the manual intermediate shaft. although, i don't remember exactly why i needed it because i did the swap about 3 years ago.
the auto axles lasted for 2 years or so until the cv boot broke and i replaced them with gsr ones later. i doubt they broke because they were auto axles though.
hope this helps

axles are the same 100% sure i did the auto to manual conv. the halfshaft is the same size just the plate sits different its hard to tell the different, its angled a bit different,

i recommend the hasport mount over welding your frame, i got mine from password jdm for 150 which was the best price by far,

the hasport mount is definately a good alternative to welding the frame. you could also go with the place racing mount. if i remember it was around the same price or maybe a little less than hasport

place racing is no longer in business from what i remember, i think jdmshit has a mount too but it doesn't look near as good as the hasport,

To confirm everybody else, the automatic axles are the same and can be reused in your 5-speed (after the conversion). You will need to get another intermediate shaft (also called a half shaft), however.

The ABS/non-ABS issue shouldn't be important if you are keeping your axles. ABS has a toothed ring around the outer boot for the ABS sensor. The non-ABS axles do not.

so everyone here is 100% sure that i need a new intermediate shaft? i want to be positive before i go buying parts that i dont need. i was always told that i need the axles and not the intermediate shaft...i want to be positive that i need these parts.

also, on the tranny mount. i was told that some years need it and some dont. i really dont want to get the hasport mount cuz im strapped for cash pretty bad. is there anyone else who makes one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg? or anyone have one that is for sale?

yes the axles are the same the difference is that the auto intermediate shaft wont bolt up to the engine with the 5-speed tranny on it, it has a differe mounting position. you just need the manual intermediat shaft

so that means i can source one from any 5 spd: 90-01 teg, b16, or anything that involves 5 spd and b16?

i can get one from a 93 ls right now for dirt cheap, they should be all the same length, width, and mount the same right?

thanx

depends on the car you have to keep them within the year unless you want to do extra work to get it to work. 90-93 90-93 and 94-01 94-01. the 90-93 shafts driver side is a female end and the 94-01 driver side is a male end.

you had to replace a seal to get it to work right? because the right seal is suppose to be different on the cable trannies then the hydro ones. i never said that they couldnt interchange...theres just a bit more work involved
