91 Accord - Crazy Electric Cooling Fan Zapped New Battery - help!
91 Honda Accord EX, 4 door-Sedan.
In this 2 months I had to jumpstart it twice. During that one time when I connected the jumper cable to the car, the electric cooling fan (one of the two, the passenger's side - the bigger one) came on eventhough the car was parked over night outside snowing, and as soon as the car was started the fan stopped. And I remember the night before the fan was still on after 20 minutes as I went out to check on it, knowing it could be a problem. I have a new battery for 2 months now - 720amps, cold cranks 630amps.
A note on the radiator says that the fan may come on and off for up to 15 minutes. But my fan had been known to have go on for 2 hours a few times in the past when I went shoping. I guess it was ok in the fall, but now is snowing out here in Chicago and that's gonna hurt the cranking amps. Usually when I turn off the car the fan is not on, but only sometimes it doesn't shut off, I'm guessing like 1 in 15 times.
Is it OK if I disconnect the electric cooling fan wire? cuz is below freezing now.
Could it be the cooling fan control? Or more likely the cooling fan switch? If it is, where is it located in the car that I can find and test it.
I took it to a garage they coudn't find the problem and wanted to change the radiator, for a warping $600 bucks. WHATA RIP OFF!
HELP please - any recommendations or suggestions are Welcome!

Fan timer module. I don't have a '91 but I guess it's under the right-side dashboard somewhere.
There's 2 fan switches. The one in the thermostat housing is responsible for switching the fans while the engine is running. The one in the upper radiator hose nozzle at the head, is responsible for the fans when the engine is turned off. Unplug that one & see.
But the timer module is responsible for shutting off the fans EVEN IF THE SWITCH is stuck. Since the fan wanted to run as soon as you used the jumper cables, I bet it's the fan timer module.

I concure with Jim's position, not because I like to pile on, but unless you have other issues which might point in another direction, The Fan Timer/Relay is the first candidate on the list of usual suspects.

I don't have a '91 so I'm not even sure EXACTLY where it's located.
He...l Jim, why do you think I concured with your position? I couldn't remember what the stupid thing was called either !!! LOL
Let's try:
Radiator Fan Control Module
or
Condensor Fan Relay
or
Radiator Fan Relay
Straight from Honda's wonderful wiring diagrams.
**God, they DO love their relays, don't they?? **

Hey P
So I took it to Honda dealer to check to be sure...since I don't know much except changing enging oil and brake pads...hehe
They said that it is a faulty fan timer ... so Jim and you are sorta right in that direction.
HOw hard is it to change that myself....feel like doint it myself cuz the dealer wants roughly $300 bucks, and they say the parts is $167 dollars
Do you think it would cost alot less if I do it myself and get the parts from autozone?
Thanks A Millions!

Deathzone Autoparts (as DesertHonda loves to call them) won't carry it (sorry). I believe it's a dealer item only. I may be able to find a discount sourse for you tho....
The illustration for what you need will most likely be here:

sorry but Honda's Relay Discriptions leave a LOT to be desired. If you can get a part number, these people sell to the public at dealer wholesale prices. good to know.
