tires, which one(yokohama,sumitomo)
i plan on staying in stock class next year for autox. im downsizing to 13S and need tires. Ive narrowed it down to 2 that im interested in. these are going on vx rims.im leaning more towards the yokohama's right now. both get about the same ratings from tirerack.
btw:these will only be used for autox so im not worried about wet traction and all.

not too much out there in the 13 size
I myself have the Sumis on my car for street use. I have no complaints about them but I have nothing to compare them too. Sumis has the advantage they offer a lot of aspect sizes in the 13in size.

The Yokohama Avid T-4 is indeed an all-season tire. However, the Sumitomo HTR 200 is a crappy summer tire.

Absolutely. Since you're only using them for autocross, get the A032R.

I'm not sure I understand the question. You are wondering whether the Yokohama Avid T-4 or the Sumitomo HTR 200, in 175/70-13, will have as much traction as a Falken tire? But which Falken tire do you mean when you say the "azenis 512" - the Falken Azenis RT-215, or the Falken Ziex ZE-512? (It sounds like you were using one of those two tires in 195/50-15...?)
All of these tires offer really crappy performance for autocross: Yokohama Avid T-4, Sumitomo HTR 200, and Falken Ziex ZE-512.
Both of these tires offer excellent performance for autocross: Falken Azenis RT-215, and Yokohama A032R.
The size (195 vs 175) won't change either of these two statements.
Does that answer your question? Or are you trying to figure out which crappy tire offers better traction than which other crappy tire? If so, don't bother...

right now i have 195/60-14 falken ziex-512 which i autocross with. i need to down size to 13"x5" rims for H-stock and yokohama only offers 175/60HR13 for the ADVAN A032R that will fit that rim, so i am hopping that i will get better traction out of the yoko even tough they are 175 wide.

Oh, yes. You will get much much MUCH better traction from a track tire that is 20 mm narrower, than from a crappy all-season tire that is 20 mm wider. No comparison whatsoever.
You also might try the 215/50-13 size A032R; I know they're a lot wider but since they're smaller in diameter, they might not rub and the extra width might be fine for autocross purposes. (The 215/50-13 is 5.2 percent smaller in diameter than 175/70-13, which I assume is your stock size, and 175/60-13 is even smaller, 6.1 percent smaller in diameter than stock.)
Another possibility is the Hoosier A3S05 tire, which is designed specifically for autocross. (It won't need much warmup the way the A032R would.) It comes in 225/45-13. Again, it might not rub because, even though it is a whole lot wider than stock, it's also 7.4 percent smaller in diameter.
Check to see what the top finishers in your class in autocross are using on their cars. You might also seek advice in the Road Racing/Autocross forum here on h-t.com

Oops! Good point.
Here are the ranges of approved rim widths for the above tires:
Yokohama A032R 175/60-13 - 5.0-6.0 inches
Yokohama A032R 215/50-13 - 6.0-7.5 inches
Hoosier A3S05 225/45-13 - 8.0-9.0 inches
So you're right; if you have to use that rim width, you can't use the wider sizes I mentioned. Sorry!

205/60's are a good fit on a vx wheel. They were very easy to mount. I've got the HTR 200's on there right now, and I have a set of 205 advan a048's waiting for my second set of vx wheels to get painted.

You must have gotten them from a company that imported them from abroad. Yokohama is not marketing any sizes smaller than 15" in North America, so you can't get them from most Yokohama dealers (e.g. Tire Rack) and they won't be warrantied by Yokohama. Not that that should be a show-stopper, by any means; a size 205/60-13 Yokohama A048 (their R compound track tire that is replacing the A032R in their lineup) would be PERFECT for autocrossing on 13" wheels on a Civic. If you can find a place that sells them, go for it!

I talked to someone tonight about buying some VX wheels...he told me originally that they were HX wheels, but they weren't. I wasn't sure if I wanted them or not because I didn't know anything about what the selection of tires was like in a 13. I think I may buy them tomorrow...can't go wrong for $100 w/ tires

The Yokohamas are pretty expensive...I figure for the first season of taking my car out, I'll start off with a more affordable tire too.

you are first in your class with crappy all season tires , running against cars using R compound tires?
wow. you must be an amazing driver. would be kinda embarrassing being beat by someone with allseasons. R compounds can easily give you 2-3 seconds over all seasons. most people say 2 seconds or more switching from Azenis to R compounds if i remember correctly.
