Default New CRX owner needs engine swap info

I just baught my first import, a 1990 Honda CRX HF. I am used to working on Domestic cars and know very little about honds's. Well I want to make this car into a road race car, since it weighs so little and handles really nice. The car has a new engine with 15K on it but its not enough power for me. I know there are a bunch of engines you can swap into it but, what I am looking for is somehting that has lots of potential, makes good power, relitavly cheap and dosen't take too much modification to make it work. Any info would be nice, I would love to see a write up on each different swap so I can see the pros and cons, and how everyhting is done.

Mike

What sanctioning body?
What Class?

Then we can answer your question as to what motor.

Power and cheap typically don't go hand in hand either.

Well the first thing you'll learn about hondas is that everything costs twice as much as for domestics, and you get half the power. The good news is that the car weighs half as much too, so we win.

Welcome to Honda-Tech, and I'll tell you what most other people will tell you, which is read search read. There's so much info out there, you just gotta look.

Well I am not racing it in any professional series, mostly just for fun. I am part of the national BMW and Porsche clubs and we run events many times a year. There is no restrictions on what you can do to your car, just as long as you don't drive crazy and have proper saftey equipment. I want this car to be able to keep up with the Porsche 944 Turbos. I just paid 1K for the CRx and would like to buy a new engine for under $1500.

I just sold my 96 Camaro Z28 that I reced the last few years, I wanted to find something that handled better.

If you are open for spending that kind of money and most anything is allowed you might be able to pull a B swap off *b16 b18a/b* Search for them if not a Dohc ZC or D16z6 would leave you with money left over to work on it and even more for what matters like brakes
