Default Changed tranny fluid found gunky dark gray stuff on drain plug

When I took off my drain bolt (auto tranny on a F22b) I found some gunky gray stuff on the magnetic tip. It was all over the tip and was really, really gunky and smelled like modeling clay. I then drained it and filled it back up with 3.4 quarts of tranny fluid. Drives much better and feels like the tranny is gripping better.

What is this gunk?

Super fine wear-metal particles. It's sorta normal, but it's not clear to me how much of that was on the plug. There shouldn't be too much.

Mush it around in your fingers. Any big chunks would be bad.

Normal. Shavings are normal wear and tear.

if you find some random piece with vary in size(little chunks of the clutch pack), sell the car while it still can shift because it will not shift at all later down the line

No chunks ... I guess they were some really fine metal dust that was stuck to the magnet and it felt clayish. I might drain and fill again because it shifts much better now. Thanks everyone

does this make sense to you? the car requies more attention as the age and miles goes up. it's like saying i am over 65 and i think i am done with seeing the doctor

keep changing that tranny fluid every 15K or yearly (whatever comes first)and your trans will live a very long time assuming that you do not abuse it.
