Default 6th Gen Coupe Fuel Tank Question ::Need Undercar Pics::

I've been having some fuel problems lately and I'm eyeing my fuel tank. The car was rear-ended by a Tahoe while stopped at a red light. The Tahoe was going around 45mph, and happened to be my best friend. The Tahoe drove away fine missing only its Chevy bowtie emblem. That day I learned that with enough force, the trunk of my Accord could easily fit into the back seat of the car. Wheels, subs, amps, spare tire, window and all. Even the license plate. Anyway, after weeks of grief, I managed to get my insurance to pay to rebuild the car. I paid cash for a great deal on this car that I had wanted so badly for so long, and I didn't want it to slip away. $9271 bucks and nearly 4 months later, I had my car back.

Here's my question. After noticing little things like my once 17 gal tank only being able to hold 15 gallons, and trouble starting on slopes with 1/4 tank or less, I'm curious if my original tank was replaced. It does look slightly irregular when looking at it from beneath, but I haven't seen any other tanks that haven't been possibly crushed or damaged. That's why I'm here. If anyone could post some under-car pics of a 6th gen accord coupe, I would greatly appreciate them.

Were you able to get more than 15 gallons of gas in it before the wreck? My 5th gen says it has a 17 gallon tank but I have never been able to fit more the 15 gallons in it even after driving with the gas light on for 50+ miles.

I have a 6th Gen, too.

When my gas needle reaches E, I only get high 13 / low 14 gallons of gas when I fill up my tank.

I have yet to let the light come on, though.

According to the owners manual in my 2001 once the gas light cuts on permanently (as in isn't fading in and out on turns) you have 3 gal remaining.

Hey iam7head, thanks for the effort, but that's the spare tire well. the hidden thing forward of the sway bar is your fuel tank.

I appreciate all the input here. My concern is, I have run the tank empty before (yes i know.. bad bad) and yet I still get 14.9 gal in it. Furthermore, my low fuel light does not turn on about 80% of the time. I could usually run it dry without the light turning on.

Consumer Guide (Automotive) Reports your concerns may be correct. They report the '98 - '02 Accord Fuel Cell Capacity at 17.1 US Gallons. This immediately calls to question what else may be going on in there, and could tie in with the discussions we've been having in your other threads. (Fuel Pump/Filter issues)

Yeah P, I know for a fact that it's always been rated at 17.1 gallons, so I can't figure out why there's such a vast discrepancy. Another fellow member is even having the exact same stalling issues as I. Too weird...
