Fuel Filter Banjo Bolt
Does the banjo bolt on a '89 fuel filter extend through the fuel filter? Thus, one end (with a nut head that is flat on two opposite sides and rounded at the other two sides) connects to the hex nut on the other side of the filter (the bottom), holding both input and output fuel lines to the filter. I cannot budge this bolt to turn.
dude i just got done changing the fuel filter on my g3 for the first time. Man it sucked but anyhow go to the auto parts store and look in one of those books like Haynes or something. Also do what the other guy said in your other post. study the one you bought to see if goes through. I doubt it though its just that those bolts are on tight as *****. good luck
ok i dont have an 89.. i havea 95.. but if its similar then NO the top banjo bolt does not extend to the bottom of the filter.. the top bolt is about maybe an inch long and has 2 flat crush washers which should have came w/ your new filter since these need to be replaced..the bottom is your gas lines.. don't bend these...
change your fuel filter w/ the engine cold.. and don't be a dumbass (not saying that you are...) and start lighting up and smoking... unscrew the gas tank cap and relieve fuel pressure (you can pull the fuel pump and run the motor until it dies)... your gonna need 2 wrenches.. one must be open end the other can be open end or socket... for the fuel line and banjo bolt... its on there hard.. i mean come on.. its your fuel lines.. its gonna be on there hard... make sure you dont disconnect/unbolt the adaptor that holds your filter to the firewall because your filter shouldnt move/spin around.. as this could snap the fuel lines... anyway once you get it to budge.. its pretty straight forward.. some fuel will trickle out (or if you didnt relieve the pressure.. it will squirt/spray out).. the botton is the same thing.. use a wrench to hold the nut on the fuel line.. while undoing the other nut... make sure you dont bend the lines..
go look at it b4 as i did this a while ago.. and this is all from memory.. plus mine is a G3 and urs is a G1...

It would also be a good idea to use a flare nut wrench on the hard line fitting below the filter. It's like a closed box wrench but w/ a small opening to get it around the hard line (as opposed to using an open end wrench w/ only 3 sides). This will prevent the fitting from rounding off, even if it's very tight.
