Default California Law Question with regards to Permits

I've been searching for 15 minutes on HT and google and am unable to find out the penalties.. I am curious what the penalties are if you have your Motorcycle Permit, and you get pulled over at night. I'm going to be getting a motorcycle shortly, and my permit even sooner....and I work a closing shift at Barnes and Noble....is it worth the risk to ride the motorcycle at night.

Many thanks in advance.

Once you're through with MSF all you need to do is the written to get your license. I'd recommend just doing that.

Right.

Except I couldn't get a ride to the last ride test, so I am out of the course. I can't have the course finished until the 15th of January now (have to start over, they are strict here), due to wait list and schedule conflict. I am getting my permit tuesday, and should have a motorcycle by the end of the week. I ride the motherfuckingbus to work every day and it wastes 15-30 minutes each way, and with two jobs, thats alot of time. I'm curious what the consequences are so I can figure out if I will be trying to ride at night until I can finish the MSF course and get my license mid-january.

you'll get a ticket basically...my friend crashed at ach and he only had a permit. since ach is a highway, people holding a permit are not allowed to ride on it so the cop wrote him a ticket while he was being carted away by the ambulance .

How long have you had to deal with riding the bus? It's only a month longer until your MSF class. Just be patient for one more month.

You could risk riding at night, and if (hopefully not) you get pulled over, maybe the cop would let you go. But why take that chance?

I've been riding the bus for 2 months.

It's made me want to kill myself.

North County's bus system is THE WORST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE WORLD....or close.

All I am risking is a ticket? no suspention or whatever?

its not a moving violation so theres def no pts, as far as i know its considered operating out of restriction. and chances are even if you did get a ticket, your court date will be set for a couple months later. if thats the case then you have time to fix the problem, and pretty much the judge will ask you if you have your license now, if you do they will most likely drop it with just a surcharge. (if you couldnt tell ive been through this a few times)

If you get pulled over at night or on the highway; they will probably impound your bike. I highly doubt they will let you ride home.

if they want to be a dick (like normal in CA) they will right you a fine and tell you that you cant ride home because its night. so either someone else rides your bike OR in most cases they impound your bike and make you pay the towing and impound fees. not worth it at all.

Yup. I dont know why it is by San Diego guys love to not have a liscense. So many either only have a permit or none at all. Lots of people I know have been pulled over on the freeway and gotten their bikes impounded for only have a permit. Impound fees are pretty ridiculous.

You're in luck, when i first got my permit i was addicted to my motorcycle and wanted to ride it all the time, so I'm on the 2 South freeway in glendale when a cop pulls me over. I had only my permit, and no insurance and it was about close to midnight.....I thought I was pretty fucked, there's nothing like waiting for a damn CHP to come up to your bike in the middle of the night on the highway, it felt pretty dangerous actually...anyways, the cop asks where I was coming from, and I told him I was visiting a friend from the hospital, blah blah blah....He said he could've cited me for:

1)Speeding (80mph)
2)No signal during lane change
3)No liscense
4)No insurance

1 and 2 are bullshit, but 3 and 4 ill glady admit to fault....So he gives me a ticket for riding my motorcycle on the freeway, but not at night, so he let me get away with that one, but still gave me a no insurance ticket as well.....

The letter comes in the mail, and the fine was $750.......I had insurance just no proof at the time, so when i went up to the clerk, the fine was dropped to $150...So you figure, the fine for getting pulled over with a permit is $150....

Since when?

The whole reason to take the MSF course is to get professional instruction and a guided test by an instructor.

Where's the benefit if you still have go to the lame DMV and take the stupid circle test????

So if you're UNDER 21 they waive it? But if your over 21 you have to take the test at the DMV?

Seems to me it should be the other way around. Most 21+ people are more mature and better with their money than any -21 people I know.
