yea, those blocks are weak and old as hell, and ive heard that they are the odd-ball B-series (the old prelude motors) and have no parts in common with anything else

It has been done before. But great modification to the head and the gasket was needed. Tom Coleman at ludircouspeed used to offer a dohc vtec head kit for 3rd gen prelude owners.

those are the old skool prelude engine. i'd ditch it and get a newer b20b or b20z. much easier to do the conversion and will most likely have less miles
there cant be that much wrong with these engines if they are built. No one has really done this. Id say do it and put on a b16 head and break some ground. No one knew about lsvtec until it was done and even after myths about reliability surfaced and persissted on the h-t and superhonda bandwagons.
iirc, there are other differences which pose difficulties. the oil pan setup is one; mounts, another, and i don't think that the bolt pattern of the headbolts matches that of the newer Bs, either. i've also heard that those 95mm cranks are crapola. the compression is low, r/s ratio is ~1.49:1, and i don't suspect that the rods are all that good- all reasons why the proposed setup isn't so popular. i've read online of a few built ones making ok power, but they were also all in 3rd gen 'ludes, which few of us have or want. i've heard of a few peeps using those cranks to stroke newer b blocks, but with the availability of good aftermarket cranks now, or places like castillo which can prep an 89mm crank to 95mm, why bother with the b20a/b21 blocks?

the engine mount locations are different on the old b20/b21 blocks so the new ones wont fit i think unless you find some mounts, but i dont thing they make any

bad info on the cranks... i can attest to their worthiness
i've done a couple CORRECTLY into b-series blocks with no issues and TONS of miles beating the crap out of 'em. for a while they got a bad rap because even crower wasn't preping them properly for use in the newer b-engines.
