Odd problem with alternator/charging system
Hey all,
its a problem i've had for a while so it's nothing serious but it bugs me. When i turn my headlights on the seem kinda dim but so are most non-hid headlights. About a second or two after i switch from low-beam to high-beams they will get brighter all of a sudden as if my alternator either decided to start charging or just kicked up the voltage. Then when i go back to low-beams, after a second or two they will get dimmer all of a sudden. Sometimes depending on rpm's or i'm assuminng other electrical load on the alternator my headlights will get brighter.
So i know on older cars/trucks the regulator is built into the alternator and generally maintains a constant voltage either when its running and the ignition is on or once it gets past XXXX rpms. (i have a 98 LS running hondata with a obd1 ecu if it matters) Is my alternator regulated by my ecu? And is this normal?
