Car Accident, Totalled???
Hey guys, my brother rear endend a SUV in my 1991 Honda Accord LX 4dr auto 180k miles, and bent the front hood, radiator support, bumper, and passenger light. Do you think insurance will total it? How much do they usually pay back valuewise? Here's a pic of what the car looks like, this is not my picture.

......eh who the hell wants old accord parts?
the only performance parts i have are strut bar, generic intake, eibach prokits, and koni yellows.
the car has a damaged driver side rear qtr panel, dent in driver's door, and the honda rear qtr panel rust......
probably am better off taking it to insurance. btw, this accident was not reported, due to SUV driver not having any damage. but then again, i dont want insurance rates to go up or this accident on my brothers driving record either.....(since its not reported to the police, would this still go on my record?)

I got $3500 for my 92 accord with almost 300k like two months ago. It all how you fight the insurance company and call them like twice a day till you get what you want
(this is the car totaled there was also damage to the front since it was hit into a wall while parked.

i have a 94 accord i rear ended someone and the insurance totaled it out. i had the car checked out and the frame was straight. so i fixed it. it needed: radiator, core support, ac condensor, both headlights, both fenders, hood, hood latch, bumper, grille. parts = 750 from a salvage yard. labor for coresupport = 300, paint (non edged) 675 and i got 3500 from the insurance company so i came out ahead. the only reason i did it was because the insurance company wouldnt let me take my modded h22 and put the f22 back in it. so i had to buy it back
Rule of thumb as far as Insurance companies go:
Damage totaling 70% of the Actual Cash Value of the vehicle will trigger the insurance Company to declare it a total loss.
They will offer two avenues of action:
1) Take the vehicle and issue a check for the A.C.V.
or
2) Allow you to keep the car, but will adjust the check amount by several Hundred Dollars.
Either way, with the Insurance pay-out; your States Registry of Motor Vehicles is notified of the new "Salvage" status of your Title. If you should decide to sell the car at a later time; you'll only be able to sell it:
a) as a 'Salvage" vehicle
b) for Parts
or
c) as a rebuildable
I'd suggest taking the money and running

it looks like a 94-95 accord but yes they will call it totalled.
I was also wondering if it is a 94-95 accord will u be able to sell the passenger side inner fender liner?

The vehicle in D21X's picture is a '94/'95 5th Gen Accord. Roof line and front fenders are too rounded to be a 4th Gen....
Here's the grille detail for a '91

Here's the grille detail for a '95

It would seem (however) that the '95 illustrated is NOT D21x's vehicle, so giving a true estimate of repairs would be just that; a "Guesstimate"
The vehicle illustrated would not be worth repairing. It looks to have subframe/structual damage up and above fenders/hoods etc, and could easily pass the $5000 mark.
CBSeven's is a '92, as he mentioned

I have to say I had a 92 Accord EX that got smashed in the rear end. I told the insurance company I would save them some time by faxing them an estimate from a local shop. (The highest paying of course.) They then sent me $4500 which I used to buy a 95 LX and sold parts from the 92.
Give it a try, it would definitely be worth your money.

Oh okay, you were confusing me for a second. I was thinking to myself, "Okay, I drive a '91, I know that's not a '91"
And yeah that's gonna be totalled. I have a friend with a 2004 Neon SXT that he rearended someone with that has just a little more damage than that... totalled, and it has a much higher value considering it's 13 years newer.

You sure about that value thing? They are like 9 grand at purchase and after 2 years I'm sure they drop pretty steep. LOL! Neons Rock!!

I guess there is no way to find out then to actually call the insurance company. I personally would just take the money and put it towards a different car. Good luck!
Does the '91 have an airbag? If so, did it go off?
But yeah, even without an airbag, on a '91 I can't see a car with that damage not being totalled.
Have you already talked to your insurance company? If not, think twice before you do. Especially if you are young and insurance is expensive where you live, the money you get back will be offset by higher premiums. If you've already told your insurance agent about the accident, go ahead and take the money. Since you've told them, you are already in their system as having filed a claim - even if you decide to not take the payout.
And why did you even have collision insurance on a '91, a car that is worth less than $2,000? What is your deductible? How much have you been paying each year for collision insurance?

I’ve got a 2016 accord which was in the same kind of wreck except I rear ended a pickup truck and his trailer hitch impaled the ac condenser and radiator. Unfortunately I was in between insurance companies and was not covered. Fortunately (for unknown reasons) the guy in the truck kept going! Anyway, I really have no choice but to repair it myself. I’ve replaced the afore mentioned parts and I’m working on the front bumper assembly. There’s little else needing to be replaced fortunately. Did I mention that I’m a girl? What I want to know is where are all the guys that are decent mechanics when a girl is in need of some help? Good thing I took shop (small engines) in high school! So if anyone has specific repair knowledge on a 2016 Accord and want to maybe help me out, reply to this thread and I’ll see it. Thanks in advance!
