97 Accord Transmission - Vehicle Speed Sensor
I have a 97 Honda and in July 2004, the VSS went out. I replaced it from an online company and it came with a lifetime warranty. In March 2005, my check engine light came on again, but this time it was something about Torque converter circuit. I took it to a transmission shop, and they rebuilt the trans, replaced the torque converter, and the electronics. Recently my check engine light came on again, and again it indicated it was the VSS again. So I called the company I bought it from, and they shipped me another one. Well I went to take the old one off, and it is a totally different style. The one I used previously, and the one the company sent, has two mounting brackets, with a pin that you put in on the inside of the sensor. Well the one that is on my car now, is a black cylinder looking one, about 2-3 inches long, and has a pigtail. I also have a 2002 accord, and it looks like it.
The transmission shop said they could have changed the housing if the old one was too beat up to use. But my concern is, I am not sure what type of sensor to use? Any ideas, suggestions, etc would be appreciated. Not sure where to go now. Thanks....

This may be of some help.

Thanks... That is what I put on in 2004 and what they sent me again. But the transmission shop changed the housing evidently...because it is nothing like that. Like it said, what is in there now is like 2 or 3 inches long, a cylinder, and it looks like it has a magnetic pick up on the end of it, in the center of it. Has two wires coming from it.

It seems to discribe #1 in the illustration (the speedo gear holder). that's cylindrical too. Who knows, their version may have been designed to fit in place of #1.
This is an example why I stay with OEM Honda for switches, sensors and electronics.
