mini me with 1.6L block. is adjustable cam still needed?

mini me with 1.6L block. is adjustable cam still needed?
im doing a mini me with a z6 head and a6 block. is the adjustable cam gear still needed or will they line up right with the stock one since they are both 1.6L ?
