Installation OEM '91 Integra Cat
havent bought it yet but this will be my first integra. I have a 91 prelude SI that has somewhat crapped out on me so i am trying to make this a speedy procees so that i dont have much time without a car. doesnt smog but needs a new cat. i have heard that it is not to hard to install a cat on a 91 GS 4d but is there anything that i should know?
you might wanna replace the exaust gasket and donut, along with the bolts because those are most likely going to be half eaten by rust
Be prepared for rust!
The process of changing out the cat is not bad, but normally the rust on the bolts for the rear of the cat are so rusted, it makes it a task.
Many different ways to handle the problem, but be prepared for it. Have some lubricant ready -and even at times that just still is not enough.
I have had it before where by hand just wouldn't do the trick -luckily the air tools have done it for me. Other times, I have had to just cut them off, bang out the old bolts, and put new ones in.
First I try by hand, to see what I am dealing with. Then I go for the air...then lastly, if I can get around it, I cut the bolts off.
Normally the front bolts are not bad -but I have seem them snap before to.
We have the bolts in stock, so if they snap, break, or need to be cut off, we have them readily at hand. It might be a good idea to look into just being ready to replace the bolts with O.E. bolts as they are correct when installed.
The rear exhaust gasket is almost a must to replace, normally the front donut gasket is okay, but why not replace it if you have been this far.
