Safe to run synthetic oil on "new" motor?
save your money and go to walmart to buy oil. get mobil 5w30, its 1.82 a quart. that is factory honda fill equiv. if honda needed synthetic, they would have filled the engine with it.

I use mobil full syntheic in all my cars no matter the mileage. if it is brand new I would brake it in and start using syntheic about 5,00 miles.

He's saying HONDA uses Castrol GTX, why even ask that question. Never did he mention any other sythetic or other oil.
I've "heard" not to bother using synthetic on older engines, that it was basically a waste in the extra money for an engine suited for run of the mill oil.

i've got video of the lead engineer of the type-R division saying otherwise.
i was saying that he was wrong, not answering any question he was asking.

I think this is the first not misinformation i've read tonight in civic, prelude, or GDD.
Is there something going on? I've had like 8 posts with crap like this.
SuperSlow thank you for not being retarded!

no doubt. Go Honda OEM oil...it's made by Mobil to Hondas specs...really good stuff

you shouldn't have a problem running synthetic on a newer motor. You might on an older motor because the petroleum lines may loosen up and cause your engine to leak. When i say old, i mean like 300k miles old. I run castrol high mileage 5w30 on my d15b7. no leaks, no burning. for the other high mileage guys out there

I can vouch for that. Honda's in Sacramento use Castrol.
I dont mean to jack the thread but why would it EVER be unsafe to run synthetic oil? How would synthetic cause oil leaks?

essentially, fully synthetics have in the past been known to exacerbate existing potential leaks in higher mileage engines simply because of the detergent-like qualities of the synthetic oil washing out buildups that were preventing the leaks.
If you have a healthy engine, it should not be a problem to run fully synthetic.

the particles in synthetic oil are smaller, so they can fit through smaller cracks / openings / bad o-rings / bad seals than organic oil.
same with tranny fluid, if i put royal purple tranny fluid in my m2b4, it just flows out the bottom in a few days.
stock honda fluid never leaks ever.

no it is not safe to run synthetic oil on a new motor. it will take forever to seat parts correctly. the only time you should ever run synthetic on a new engine is if the factory advises.

What? How in the hell does synthetic oil not seat parts correctly?! Can anyone verify this, this sounds wrong

im not saying it will happen, but you do run a higher chance. the additives in the oil are diff. than regular oil. the viscosity of the two are somewhat diff. its kind of hard to explain.
If you go to ExxonMobil's website they say that you CAN use synthetic oil on a new motor. They also state that the cars that call for Mobil 1 (Corvette, 911--I am sure there are others) actually have Mobil 1 in their crankcase from the factory--before they are ever ran. Traditional thinking says not to switch to synthetic until you have at least 500 miles on the motor, but I am starting not to believe that anymore....
