ok i got a 92 eg and now that its cold out here in jersey i recently have been noticing that the cluster lights take a few minutes to come on and the brake lights dont come on till the dash lights come on. Do these light bulbs need to heat up to run. I let the car run for like 5 minutes and they all light up fine. and its only when its cold out.

 

lights themselves are very good at making heat. over half the energy consumed is turned into heat and the rest is lost and actually turns into light. that is why technologies such as LED and HID are better at outputting light instead of heat.

 

This is an electrical problem.

Light bulbs reach about 2000K in the blink of an eye. The fact that it's a little chilly out won't make a differance.

I would turn on your lights when cold, with out the engine and try to diagnose the problem. This is not an easy task.

 

ditto, you are going to be at this for a while. a good place to start is to unplug the major connectors, clean them with electrical connector cleaner and relube them before reconnecting.

seems normal for when its cold... they just take a little longer to turn on?

same thing with my wipers... relay thing?

 

it is possible that you have an ignition switch that is sticking after you crank it, so it hasn't returned to the acc or ign2 position yet. disassemble the switch, clean and lube it

 

I had this VERY same problem on my Accord. It turned out to be the actual turn signal/headlight switch. My headlights would take FOREVER to come on in the mornings, so I took a hair dryer one day, and held it up to the turn signal arm, and they came right on.

Try that, if it works.. It means you have a bad switch and will need to replace the whole mechanism.

 

my turn signals take forever to work now that its gotten cold
i have to turn them on and off really fast then sorta hold them half way before they start working normally, then they have no problems until my car cools again

the problem actually first surfaced when after i installed a greddy turbo kit, but i also finished that right when it started getting cold. dunno..
