specs:
2004 gsxr 600
Bike set up for AFM 600 Production
102hp w/stock pipe (for comparison, a stock gsxr dyno'd at 96hp that day)
49state bike
Racetech fork internals
PCIII USB
Ohlins dampner
Leo Vince slip-on
NRC race engine covers
Graves rearsets (not on right now)
HPS motor (by Tom Houseworth)
HID low beam
Safety wired
fender elim
Frame sliders
520 conversion (+3 in the rear; also have -1 front for the track)

Got the bike over 4 months ago but was too lazy to take pics. When I got the bike, it didnt look as pretty. Traded the track fairings + a Penske shock for stock fairings (courtesy of Immortal)

So far its mainly a street bike with the occasional trackday here and there. I plan on racing in AFM for '06 so this will be the racebike (in middleweight clubman) unless I get the funds to get another 400. I really want to race 450 production/ lightweight clubman though.

It does. Takes a little bit to get used to the extra grip but I really like it now

Nice bike. Im sure its a little weird going from a torquey honda V4 to a torqueless 600cc inline 4 with an amazing topend. Im a big fan of the VFR's, i still really want one.

Can I ask what might be a stupid question?

I might be missing something here...or misunderstanding, but according to your post your bike puts out 6 whp more than a stock gsxr....but you have a totally modified engine in your bike?

Is it more reliable? Can it withstand track abuse better? Better power band/curve? More torque? I guess I'm wondering why someone would spend, what I assume to be a pretty penny, on a modified motor if they're only getting 6 more whp. I guess in a race bike this might make a world of a difference....?

Just curious.

There has been headwork done to the motor (I believe cams, milled head, valve job, and maybe p/p). Not sure about the torque numbers but the power band is fairly linear. There are set guidelines to what can be done in terms of motorwork for AFM Production bikes (which this bike is set up for). Every little hp helps. Only time will tell if it compromises reliability but I dont see it really affecting it that much.

Just the penske and track fairings for a complete set of stock fairings. Not bad of a trade. I needed the stock stuff since its primarly a street bike right now. If I wanted to make it back to track only, I could always sell the street stuff and buy track stuff

yah but try riding that thing for more than 1 1/2 hr and you'll feel like cutting your buttcheeks off. Cruising at 85-90mph isnt a strong point for the bike (85-90mph = 10k rpm and felt scared the motor was going to blow if I kept cruising at that speed) It also sucked being blown away on the straights at the track.

I'm planning on getting another grey market bike (I want a RVF400, CBR400, or a MC28 NSR250) within the next year or so. I know someone that has a MC28 for sale and another guy that is trying to sell 3 of his VFR400s

Anyone want to guy a GSXR600?

My bike's been up for sale, but no one wants a track-only bike during the off-season. Plus, mine's not half as pretty as yours.

Did you ever try out AFM 600? I heard it's pretty cutthroat.
