One of my friends is selling his skunk2 valve springs and retainers. I think he wants 100 bucks for them. My question is do valve springs wear out and lose their tensile strength? Would they be safe to use these if they are used? Or should i not skimp out and just buy new ones? They are for SOHC head by the way. Thanks for the help.

I suppose they'd work, but personally I'd just splurge for new ones to be sure.

 

how long have they been on the car? how did he drive it? was he constantly in the higher rpm ranges? just some things to consider.

 

find the spring pressure specs, i.e. what the psi at what height should be, take them to a machine shop, and have them bench tested. shouldnt cost more than 10 bucks, afterall they are loose i am assuming.

 

I dont know how he always drives it but when I see him (only on the weekend) he is always on it and boosting the hell out of it. I think he uses the rev limiter alot. I think it is set for 8 grand or something. So I will just spring (no pun intended) for new ones. Thanks for the help.
