why is that? because he didn't put a k-series in it? don't knock people for trying different things...

and i suppose its a waste swapping a b18c into a hatch to right...
its all for experimenting.. if some one didnt do it then civics would all be boosted d's

No...and i'll explain so you kids dont get your panties in a wad. Its a complete waste because the F20 was engineered for the S2000...its a torqueless wonder that relies on the time spent testing and researching its power output based in the S2000 chassis...when you take it and flip it around, mate it with a front wheel drive transmission and essentially, turn it into a FF platform...it becomes a very mediocre setup. He could have spent probobly the same or less money, had a MUCH faster and just as unique swap out of another front wheel drive platform car (since the vast majority of Hondas are in fact FF)...and he also would have had an engine that was engineered to be mounted in a front wheel drive car in between the shock towers (instead of behind them where the S2000 motor should be).
So it is a waste because he turned a very engineered MR platform motor into an FF platform...and now he has a torqueless n/a motor with a bunch of engineering for a totally different car that will probobly perform abotu as well as a stock Bseries.
Thats why i said it was a waste...now take your midol and have a good weekend.

yes the engine was designed to be mr- but with proper chassis tunning, and experience it can be a wonderful thing its displacement to make more power more easily than a b or a normal k20. Ive seen rwd rear mounted h22 hatches and sol's roll out a new level of preformance in a honda .. Just need the right person with the time to invest to take the first steps for us . Granted also s2k motors are expsive . I would have personally just gone d turbo lol

Mediocre performance out of the motor itself, expensive and 110% engineered for ONE car...lol, its a waste of time, its not a ground breaking movement by some engineering genious...he could have grabbed a B20 (since you wanted a 2.0) and had a better all around setup and STILL had tons of money to drop into the motor to make it faster.
That's wonderful news. This is how this scenerio will play out:
Some ricer reads this topic, then steals an S2k, finds out it'll cost as much or more than buying a new S2k to make this work, then sells the s2k parts on ebay. Then the cycle starts over again. Meanwhile, one of the main reasons why I sold the R will yet come to haunt me again.
Like Hypnosis said, get a K20a, B18, etc. for your civics.

kid's huh? lol...okay old man. you know everything...I mean what is it to you to talk trash about his car? is it your money that he took and put into his car? also mediocre performance from the motor itself? what other na motor do you know that puts out 120bhp per liter? I'm pretty positive that he puts down more whp with the front wheel drive platform as well...everyone that wants to do the normal thing and grab a b20 will do so...don't talk trash...and definitely don't try and talk down to others for stating their opinion...some are hot headed like myself and can take things the wrong way...so be nice or STFU!
also the whole engineering thing to one car? why would you suggest that he put a crv motor into a civic if you go along those type of guidelines? sorry for things to have to be ground breaking movements to receive your approval
ps-not trying to be an e-thug...just don't like the fact that someone has to try to talk down to another on a freakin message forum

The $30k+ that you'll spend in putting the S2k engine into a Civic that'll produce 120hp/liter, how much power do you think a K20 or a B18 will pump out with the same amount of money and time spent on it?
$30k+? is that a figure you just made up or is that how much the person spent on it? I'm not saying hey this is a great swap...everyone should do it...I'm saying what is it to you guys to talk trash about what he wants to do with his car? thats all..end of discussion.
You never heard ME talking **** about the guy or his car...read my initial post, i made it clear, simple and to the point...the idea was a complete waste. If that guy loves the setup an thinks it was worth every penny...more power to him, i dont have to share his or even your enthusiasm about it to speak my own opinion...and that opinion still stands, the idea is a total waste of time.
Ive spoke on the why's already...im not going to go there again, but i will address you specifically dkim48...
For starters, i use kids loosely, dont take much offense to it, i call my wife kiddo sometimes...just slang ive grown up with...it was not derogatory...just fitting. Now your preaching to me the positive aspects of the F20 motor...trust me, as a former S2000 owner, i know all about it...im a BIG fan of the S2000, i think they are quite possibly the most fun and affordable roadster on the market...but i maintain my opinion of mediocre performance...hp/litre doesnt do much when you're running a mid 14sec. 1/4 in a car that you spent so much time and money swapping a motor into...and then being front wheel drive, responds with lack luster track performance given the lack of torque and only decent horsepower #'s...
So yes, i stick by the mediocre performance aspect of this being a big part of why i think its a waste...now to speak on the engineering for ONE car aspect that you pointed out was the same with the CR-V and all other swaps really...NO...it is not the same...you see, the CR-V, and other cars as i was POINTING OUT earlier are front wheel drive...engineered as such...and thats just the beginning of how the F20 out of an S2000 is different in this aspect...the S2000 is a highly tuned performance car, it is built with a very unique chassis and drivetrain setup...it has a motor that is in front of you, but maintains aspects of a MR setup because of the location...the motor was BUILT FOR THE S2000, not the other way around...i could go on and on for days on this, but i think you get the point.
Now to sum this up because i dont want to write an epic novel...you can get as hot headed as you want, means nothing to me...if my opinion and very legitimate explination hurts your feelings...you need to not take the internet so seriously...read into what i said...maybe you'll learn something, maybe not...i dont care, if you get angry, get over it...if you get upset because im being mean...lol, im not even going to go there with you.
My reasoning and my opinion are mine alone, i dont expect anyone to agree with me (but i know alot of people do)...i dont need acceptance to maintain it...and i certainly dont need to be nice to express it...i feel the idea is a waste of time and money, you (and others) asked why and i gave you a legitimate reason (actually, several)...accept it, deny it or just let it get under your skin...i could care less.

i would much rather have a k20 over and f20 in my hatch.... it's actually quite simple... the k20 responds to basic bolt ons a lot better then the f20.. it would be cheaper to mod the k20 with bolt ons to make 240 flywheel hp like the f20.... the f20 would cost you so much more money in just installation and fabrication alone...
it's cool that the guy tried and it's working out for him at this point.. but when you really think about it. it's a waste of a lot of money that could of been spent on something else.. ... maybe even an actual s2000..

I agree that a K motor would have been a better choice, but how do you figure an F20 would affect the handling? It's not like the motor weighs 100 pounds more than a K-series motor or something.

come on it's not that bad of an idea, give the guy some credit
im sure he'll get a lot more respect with that set up not to mention 9k redline which might be very useful for the track.
personally i would do a k20a engine but that's been done, experimentings fun and that's what makes cars so fun, if all we had to do was i/h/e, no one would enjoy it as much.
good for that guy and if he thought it was worth spending o so much money and fabricating all those parts and his dream and whatnot, thumbs up to him

The reason why it dynos less is because its RWD and not FWD like your car. RWD usually puts down much less whp due to losses going through the drivetrain. Also the K20a2 only makes 200 bhp. the S2000 already makes 240 bhp. Try squeezing more hp out of the k20a2 after i/h/e. You can use K-pro but a S2000 can use EMS.
Both motors have just about qual potential. Stock, the f20c has hollow camshafts that flow oil, fibre reinforced cylinder walls and it has better flow top end. The only major thing the k series has over the f20c is i-VTEC.

Regardless of the dyno power you'll put down switching it to an FF platform, you'll still have a mediocre performing motor for the price of almost TWO better front wheel drive platforms...lol. But since people are more concerned with being different and unique...wooohooo! lol...all praise the F20 in the civic. What a waste.

i agree.. i mean to throw in a k20 or even k24 for less money, and mod that, to me woul d make more sense to do.. im guessing he did the f20 to be different for one, secondly, probably for the extra 40hp. but like i think you and most people have said, supporting mods for this engine are going to be espensive..
but then again, alot of people are making a big *** deal over this swap like it was almost a crime to do, so does that mean that the people swapping f16 jet engines into school busses, etc are down right out of their phuking mind and should of just swapped in a v12 F1 engine instead?
its all the bragging rights he'll have, and some.. SOME.. respect he might get from some. this is all very new to all of us for this kind of swap, but remember... with time and more word to mouth, this might excel into something good and more affordable

I dont think its a crime...i dont care what people do with S2000 motors, my only response was that it was a complete waste, which i still think it is. The F20 isnt some elite motor that claims its home to the S2000 engine bay only...alot of rear wheel drive cars (like the Toyota AE86) are perfect setups for the F20 if you want to do something different. My problem comes with the swap being turned into an FF platform...and then it just goes downhill from there.
