wheel hopping
hey. please...i just want answers to my questions. i dont' wanna be lectured. like many of you people, i like to have fun in the snow. sometimes when i spin tires, my tires hop. it sounds like my axles are gonna snap. what could be the problem?
#1 cause is busted motor mounts
Edit: Now how did you manage to do this to your car? abuse maybe?

when u spin tire u mean as doing wheelies.. taking off faast from a stop??? if so than i know what the problem is ................IT IS YOU ... stop doing so or the axle will snap then u will be stuck whereever u are at..

I suspect you're hitting some patches where the tires are getting some traction intermittantly. It would have the effect of instantly loading the suspension from a relaxed state, deflecting the suspension bushings to their limits. This would also amplify a broken motor mount problem as well (as mentioned elsewhere) as the instant application of torque was transmitted back up to the motor/transmission.
It may be that you already have a bad CV Joint (rythmic snapping noise in turns).
Either way, it sounds like your driving style has caught up with you.

actually i just bought the car about 3 thousand miles ago. so its not my bad driving habbits; its the previous owner. well thats what i get for getting a used car.
yesterday, i changed my wheels. when i had the wheel hopping problem, i had 18s on my car with low profiles. now i have my stock tires for winter. i was ******* around with my co-workers today, and i spun tires. strangely, i had no wheel hop or nothing. could it be the low profiles?

Just going to keep abusing it until it won't go at all huh? Still spinning tires even with a broken motor mount. Then when something else breaks he's going to tell everyone he knows Honda's are junk, right.
i noticed a differnce somtimes too when the wheels spin.. i think its just the way the force on te suspension is distributed.. if you car just lanches then all the wieght transfers to teh rear making less contact/friction for the front tires... this makes the wheels skip/hop... which is bad... but i really dont know why sometimes it jsut goes smooth.. i guess it all has to do with weight distribution...

Simple, when you have a busted mount the whole drive train is loose and the wheel has nothing anchoring it in place and this in turncan cause it to bounce up and down creating wheel hop.

i dont quite get it
is it when you try and do a burn-out? or is it just when you are in the snow? if your just spining your tires not in the snow and dont want it to hop just give it more gas
maybe it was the width of your 18s they grab the road better so its harder to spin them

i think that may be it. when ever the wheel hops, it sounds like its got too much traction. when i put the stock tires back on, the tires skid with no problem. dont' think that i do burn outs every light. i just like to expletive around with my friends every so often.

it's probably the tires.
Your thinking the wider 18's gripped more causing the hopping. But a while ago there was a conversation about this. I thought the stickier tires would increase the possibility of wheel hop as well but it was explained by quite a few people that the stickier tires would actually spin more amd the crappier tires would hop more. I forgot the exact reason behind it, but pretty much everyone agreed. I wish I could find the thread. I can't remember the thread title so I can't find it in the searches.

what makes sence to you touring accord ?
the tire with less traction loosing grip alowing the tire to spin easer?
or the tire with more traction that hugs the road better would slip better?
you said your self that at first thought the other way around, like i do ,and now you beleave the other,,, well damn i want to hear the argument that was so very convincing could you give a url for us to read
i am not trying to be a jack *** i just dont agree
and i know deep down you dont really beleave it either but hay if i am really wrong here i would love it to be proven differently

edit: hold on. I think it's coming back to me. I'm thinking wrong.

ok, I read though a thread that sorta jogged my memory.
It wasn't a grippy tire vs. crappy tire, I don't know what I was thinking
, sorry. It had more to do with the suspension setup. Soften the front suspension and sticky tires is what they said. The idea is to get the tires to grip and hookup, then it will hop less. Wheel hop is caused by the tire traveling front-back, thats why people with Civic's and Integra's use traction bars. In the Accord you can use stiffer radius rod bushing to help hold the tire from travelling front-back.
I also read a few times that reducing tire pressure will also help reduce wheel hop.
Sorry again for the misinformation I posted above. I must be having a major brain fart
