Default Springs or coilovers?

Which would be better for my cars performance springs or coilovers. One of my friends said that springs would be better for performance and that coilovers are better for show cars. Is this true?

Short answer:
If you're asking this question, you probably dont need "coilovers" and will be wasting your money and should buy a good set of Eibach Pro-kits or any other quality kit.

I know what a coilover is, I meant to say the adjustable coilovers.
