Default BRRRRR....Cold starting issues

I am having a little trouble getting my car to start in the mornings when it's like....20 degrees outside....does anybody in cold *** ******* regions such as mine have the same problem?

i have reason to believe it might be due to my MSD ignition, but im not certain...

any insight would be greatly appreciated

Mine has problems too....but I think its due to the cams and compression mostly.

This wouldn't be an ignition problem.

Just the battery - the ignition doesn't perform any differently with weather changes.

The battery changes as the weather changes.....just slow charge your battery - if you have another car, take your battery out and charge it at like 3amp for 24 hours.

This should take care of the problem.

Check starter draw. Check battery capacity. Also - make sure you're using the correct oil weight. If the oil is too thick, the starter will try to draw more amperage - and if the battery cannot supply enough amperage at that temperature, the car won't start.

Check the CCA and report back to us.

Also, if you have a cheap *** battery like EverStart or something - get rid of it.

Get a DieHard.......thats all i use. Never had ANY problems. EVERY. My entire family uses die hards - as encouraged by my step-father.

good good info

i think the battery is pretty weak so ill look into getting another one....and if it isn't supplying enough charge to the MSD it naturally wont fire...cool

thanks

No, don't get another one. Just charge the battery.

Do a load test on it - if the voltage drops below 9.6 - it needs to be replaced.

if you do an open circuit voltage check (place red and black leads on the red and black terminals), it should read 12.6 - if its less, it needs to be charged.

At 20 degrees - it will be much lower. Try to keep it at 12.4v <---75% charge.

Dude, if you have bigger than normal cams or higher than normal compression there is a strong chance you could have trouble starting the car even if your starting system is spot on.
