Default New tuning on the B16b

Made a stop by MPS (Meridian Performance Services) in Lynden, Wa today for a tuning session w/ Crescent Kao (local tuning hero and road racer).

Mods to motor include: Stock 99 B16b w/ stock internals, Skunk 2 cam gears, Injen CAI, JDM 4-1 header, straight pipe and Mugen Twin Loop exhaust. Running the motor is a chipped P28.

First dyno (Blue) run was a kenji chipped program that put down 158.16hp and and 108.75tq.

Second (green) was a program that was tuned on the fly (street tuning) w/ Crome software that put down a little less hp but more tq throughout the power band than the kenji program w/ 155.12hp and 106.91tq. This program showed less hp but felt more "meaty" to drive.

The 29th run (red) was the new tune by Crescent w/ 166.80hp and 114.72tq. Notice on the plot there are significant gains throughout the band in both hp and tq and difference is definately noticeable on the street.

Final cam gear settings were +2 on the intake cam and 0 on the exhaust cam. Did alot of experimenting w/ the cam gears and this was the best combo.

Here are the plots:

A huge thanks goes out to Crescent for the time spent w/ the car. He is a great friend and an awesome tuner. If anyone in the Seattle area needs tuning he is the man, hands down (http://www.c-speedracing.com/) Any input is appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Zach

Damn Zach, you gained quite a bit of power throughout the whole ****. Looks really nice!!! Might have to hit up crescent when I'm ready for tuning.

Damn overal you have a much stronger motor than mine with similar mods.
Much more useable power at lower rpm's.
Only thing is that my peak hp is about 200rpm more than yours.

Great results!

I'm sure you mean VTEC (VTECH makes phones and what not). You'd have to put your car on a dyno to see what vtec engagement point works best for your set up.

REALLY good numbers. That's gotta be well over 210 hp at the fly. Interesting to see that tuning the cams made a difference to yours. Mine turned out to be best at stock cam settings with the std cams in. and I have almost the same setup as you.

When you think about it, fantastic figures for a nasp 1.6. And don't you just LOVE the sound of it at 9k? SWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

Those are some great numbers Zach! I love seeing your car get better and better over the years.

I keep hearing good things about Crescent. I hope he can tune k series as I start modding my little ep hatch.

B16A? Sounds like a very healthy dyno...

100 bucks an hour. As many runs as you can fit in that time...Crescent is truely a Tune-meister... you should see what he can do with "other" software/hardware...
