Default Is it illegal to have blacked out tailights in San Francisco CA?

Hello -

Just a question that I hope someone can help me out here. Is it illegal to smoke out or black out your tailights here in San Francisco or CA in general?

Thanks.

Sounds good. I am debating if I should go redded out tails or blacked out tails to go with a white.black theme.

Yea, I am leaning more towards a redded out tails. I will have to see and wait till I paint the side moldings, side skirts, install the ITR lip, and get some black rota slips. That way I can photoshop the lights and see which looks best for that configuration. Will post pics once done, hopefully I won't get ripped as much here, hehe.

Indeed.
I see tons of Mustangs and Camaros here in Sac with blacked out tails.
As long as your turn signals aren't some fruity color aside from red or orange and your brakes are red.

it's not illegal as long as:
-light snines through
-reverse isn't masked
-reflectors still work
