question about size of tire 215/35/17
will this tire size be streetable? going with katana concept 5 or konig verdicts in 17" rims and want 215/35 for them. is this too thin and chances of rims being dented?
Yeah, that's gonna be pretty thin. I'd probably get something a little thicker for peace of mind. You don't have to slow down to incredibly slow speeds for every bump.
The 215/35 has an even thinner sidewall than the more common 205/40, which is pretty thin in itself.
I had the 205/40's on my car a while ago, and I had to be very very careful over everything. There's only so much you can do, but occasionally bumps will sneak past your eye and you'll hit them hard. You might say, "I'm a very careful driver", but I guarantee at one point, you will hit a bump hard. With 215/35 tires, the rim will bend. Better safe than sorry. Go with at least 205/40 or even 215/40.
I dented the inside of my 205/40 tire and rim combo once. Imagine if I had something thinner. ::shudders::

damn....that's what i thought. so what is a safe one to go for because i am not really a safe driver where i see every bump, pothole, etc. THANKS!
I'd say the best thing would be to go with a 215/40, but that might alter your speedo readings a lot. If you don't care, go for that.
If you really like the low profile look and still want to be relatively "safe" you can go with the 205/40.
Look around at people with 17's, I'm sure most of them have the common 205/40's. See how you like those.

how does it slightly alter the speedo? does it slow it down by that much? cuz i am pondering on whether to go 17s or just SI 15s.....or rota subzero 15s.
how does it slightly alter the speedo?
But if you go quite a bit larger, your car will be moving faster than what your speedo says. When I ran 215/40/17's, my speedo showed about 50, when a police radar said I was going 58.
I'd say, get some Rotas!
I just purchased a set. They're lightweight and don't have the price of lightweight rims. 17's will be a lot heavier and will slow you down. 16's are a nice compromise of looks and performance. 15's will be even better......but I went with 16's. [Modified by shamoo, 4:56 PM 3/16/2002]
