Shifting probems - 91 civic STD
Hello-
Recently a friend of mine experienced some problems with his manual 91 Civic STD. He was driving on the highyway and when he tried to downshift to slow down, the motor would not respond to the gas pedal.
Basically, he could get the car in gear but the power was not making it through his transmission.
What confused me is that upon shutting down and restarting the car, it worked just fine. What could cause this?
The car is a stock 91 Civic, STD 4 gears.
Thanks!

The car could have just shut off while he was driving or something. Might have something to do wtih the relay. Mine did something like that once, but it came back to life and it hasn't happened since.

Thanks for the reply. Im aware of main relay problems and motors shutting off, but I dont know if thats the case here. Car didnt shut off by itself, the motor would not respond to the transmission.
I was thinking something more mechanical could cause this (i.e. flywheel bolts? pressure plate?) but I was confused as to how a mechanical problem could vanish when the car was started back up

If the motor doent respond to the gas pedal....then its a motor issue. Trannys dont cut in and out like that..Sounds electrical to me.
