Default 1st gen swap, Help please! searched!

I have an 86 crx si and last night my trans started to go out. instead of replacing the stock trans, i was wondering about doing an entire swap. is this possible? What do i do about wireing? axles, mounts, gauges? will it fit? these are almost all the questions need to get answered before i start my swap. the faster i get help the better because my trans is getting bad fast!

Thanks in advace
J.D.

Go to http://www.redpepperracing.com and you can probably find a good deal on a D16A1 (1.6 liter DOHC D-series engine, much like the DOHC ZC) from an 86-87 integra (brown valve cover, make sure it's one from 86-87 because the 88-89 is a whole lot more work to get to work in your car).

D16A1's are direct swaps into your car, much cheaper then getting a hasport kit to fit in a b-series engine. Here's a link to a great article: http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/how-to/84-87hybrid/

Since you have an Si, it's going to be a whole lot easier. My friend has an 87 CRX DX that we were going to put a D16A1 in, so I did a lot of research on the matter. If you need any help, just ask me, or anyone on redpepperracing will point you in the right direction

88-00 D-series swap pretty much impossible unless you know how to fabricate mounts

88-01 B-series swap are done but cost 1-3k when all is said and done.

88-89 D16a1 swap (from Integra) can be done easily but requires adding wiring and playing with the wires to get it to work. (switching from Vacuum advance to Electronical Advance)

86-87 D16a1 swap is the easiest. drops right in. Can use stock wiring, stock ecu or integra one. (this is an integra by the way)

http://www.redpepperracing.com will give you lots of help. search vtecn8ive on there in the archives. I have a post there that has links to about 15 different links on swap info.

I thnk its like http://www.1gen.org or http://www.1teg.org and that specializes in 1gen Integra motors.

Not to hard. the 86-87 Rods are hard core though. D-series builder like to buy them since they are cheap and bulky.

Yes you can use your stock tranny I believe but I would recommend the d16a1 it has the intermediate shaft less pulling to one side on launch.

PS: you sell motors from Japan but you are located in Texas? Weird.

You need the full swap from a 86-87 Integra everything and it drops right in. You have to mix and match some mounts from the integra and Crx/civic. and you'll need 86-89 Integra front knuckle assembly but if you are keeping your tranny (you'll have to swap over the flywheel, clutch/pressure plate I believe) you can keep your front knuckles.

personally I'd upgrade the front knuckles and then throw some 88-91 Civic/CRX DX/SI/EX calipers on it. and I think a 86-89 Prelude carburated has the same master cylinder as 1st gen CRx but larger. meaning a direct bolt on.

haha I was building an 85 (recessed headlights) with this swap and then the popo decided to tow my car never to be scene again.

okay this is going off of memory..

I know for sure black top = 88-89, and brown = 86-87.

Maybe
Someone painted the brown to black?

Where are the bolts on the inside of the valve cover or outside I think that makes a difference.

Look at your dizzy does it look like a newer style dizzy or does it have vacuum lines going into it?

88-89 integra

welcome to wiring 110!! hope you've taken wiring 101.

This will require some extensive wiring.

Get a brown top distributor and cam journal. Check the site out for more details and pics. Quoted from Katman's FF-Squad site below (also posted earlier):
*NOTE: Technically, you can drop in a blacktop D16A1 into your 84-87 if you wish, but to make the electronic aspect of the swap easier, you will need to use a browtop D16A1 integra VAI distributor & cam journal. Using the retain your the distributor & distributor cam journal from an 86-87 browntop (VAI type) so that you c an retain your current VAI electronics over to the newer blacktop engine.

I don't think the tranny will fit. You have to use an 86-89 tranny.

Look at the dizzy (distributor) if it has vacuum lines coming out then its a 86-87.

I'm going to say its a 88-89 though.

Its on the intake.

Man I'm going to say its an 88-89. The browntop valve cover is not interchangeable with the black.

The bolts go in different places.

If its 86-89. If you get a true browntop 86-87 it should be a direct drop in. But those are very difficult to come by. Lots of people have them for sale but dont' knwo if the year they came from. That is very important to know.
