my bike has almost every reflector shaved (was like this when I got it) and I was looking to maybe get an undertail kit which supposedly are not DOT approved... People getting crap for this stuff or get through no problem??

My DMV didn't care about any of the miscellaneous stuff. They just want to see matching VIN and engine numbers (or a good reason why they don't match).

well yeah basically they could probably right a page of violations it has... no reflectors, the exhaust is too loud as well as removed pair system, probably too high of emissions, soon the undertail for rear signals and front will be led flushmounts but I think those are dot approved or would not be questioned...

Absolutely true. But that requires more effort on the part of the examiner. I don't think they (DMV employees) care enough to play "find the violations" on your motorcycle. They probably figure the local piggies can deal with that.

It won't pass VA safety inspection unless you go to a crooked inspector or bribe someone.

DMV didn't even go out and look at my bike when I registered it.

reflectors and/or undertail... basically if it's not DOT legal then a legit inspector will fail you.

well I'd think the undertail wouldnt raise much havok as it still has everything except a plate light (I'm still pondering if I want the undertail or not...). Which my old bike didnt have.... the lack of reflectors would be an issue... I'll likely just find someplace local that's lax on it. But I still have a year left anyways...

No plate light is failable as well as any rear turn signals that aren't specifically DOT approved.
