Default Buddy club cams spec 3 vs spec 3+

what are the differences? ive searched but i couldnt find any answers.

I know spec 3 are good for mid range and does not require any valvetrain upgrades.

How about spec 3+? can i use my stock gsr valvetrain? and where does it most make power? in terms of rpm range? thanks

definetly not you just gotta suck it up and spend the money if you want the car to run correctly

please dont spread misinformation.

the buddy club spec 3 cam series is their entry level cam. why they started with the number 3 is anybodys guess.

similar to the skunk2 stage 1, blox stage1, etc etc.

stock gsr valvetrain will be fine unless you plan to go past 8k.

to the original poster, there is a post here with good graphs of the buddy club cam. the top end of the cam has shown to be a little less on par with the skunk stage 1, but the midrange gain is enormous. im in the process of selling my skunks and in turn, looking for the buddys. good luck

On my setup, the skunk2 pro series 1's made more hp and tq pretty much everywhere over my bc 3+'s.... something like 8 ft/lb tq down low. My tq peak sits at 5k right now. Its a great street car.

i actually called buddy club to see the difference...

turns out the regular 3 isn't for sale anymore. they updated the cam not too long after it was released. dont know the specifics on the change in duration and lift but there shouldn't be any worry, they're both great cams.

From experience, I'd suggest upgrading your valvetrain also

you have good compression to go with Pro1s, I have similar comp 11.5:1, with bc3+, so I could probably go with pro1s, it is only that lift that concerns me on Pro1s as far as longevity goes.
BC3+ are almost stock lift, where pro1s are stage 2 type lift... How much valve train noise do you get?

Do you have dyno with Pro1s, or if not how much did you end up making with them?

I had the 3+ cams in my street motor (LS/VTEC revving to 8200) they made great midrange and good top end, power was excellent from 5k to 8k. good street cam. skunk2 pro1s may be a little better but significantly more expensive...

I am not too worried about the $ it is all relative, but this is my daily driver and reliability is the most important (some would consider BC3+ step too far anyway)
Mind you I already have over 20K miles on BC3+ and when I checked them recently they looked very good.

I had a look at the specs on Pro1 and my compression can support them (11.5:1), but their lift is a bit more than I would like.

They are definetly stage 2 cam and bc3+ is no doubt more suitable as far as longevity and required preventative maintenance goes.

I am interested to compare dyno plots, because at certain point gains might justify the change.
I am also surprised at how close these cams (BC3+ and Pro1s) are, for being so different in their design...

You say you have 20k on your bc3+? What valvetrain are you/have you been running, and how high have you been revving them? What engine management? I'm looking to go with a bc3+ setup in a gsr.

the 3's are no longer available. if you want an actual break down and dyno of the two let me know. but you shouldnt even have to worry bout the normal 3's as they arent available, unless you buy them used off someone.

I would look at the 3+ if you want a good cam that isnt very expensive.
